Newton Equipment LTD (http://www.newton-equipment.com/classic-350-filler-cap.html) makes a pretty nifty copy of the old Monza type racing gas caps that were originally made by Enots in Birmingham, England back in the day. These were often seen on Cobras and many other sports cars in the '50s and '60s. They were used on cars in the Trans-Am series as well until SCCA outlawed them for the '70 season. These new caps have the right look externally but have the nice safety feature of another "cap inside a cap" and you can even get a locking cap if you want. This was on one of the Trans-Am Mustangs at Monterey a couple of weeks ago.

If my memory is right, there was an old sprint car we in the early 80s that had that type of cap on the fuel tank.

It's funny you would start a thread on filler caps as I am in the middle of fabricating the filler tube and installing the cap I have. I bought this one from a place called Crafty B. They make mostly old school street rod stuff but they have a lot of racing filler caps as well.

Thanks for the reply. That's a nice looking piece and it'll look great on your Mustang.

Similar in nature to the one used on Donohue's '68 Camaro (now owned by Tom McIntyre).
-
AMC Javelins used this style of filler cap too. All the factory-backed teams did in 1968.

The Vick Campbell (#75) and Joie Chitwood Camaros, seen here at the '67 Sebring race, used a Halibrand or "Halibrand-like" fuel filler cap.
These were another cap that was used at Indy well before being used in the Trans-Am series.

How many photos do you have of 67 Z's in some form or fashion, Jon? lol
You never cease to amaze me..
-
I don't know Darrell but it's one of those situations where you can never have enough. 8)
-
Hey Jon, the Vince Campbell cap looks like it is hard mounted to the trunk lid... How did that work?? .... or does it just look that way??
-
Max, the base of the cap is hard mounted to the trunk lid but if you pull up on the chrome t-bar it will unlatch the lid.

Finally finished my fuel cell mock up. Similar to a 69 Bud Moore car. They original used a pair of side marker bezels in the back as vents for the filler neck. This is going to be a street car so I made them into back up lamps instead. The cell vents from a fitting on the front side of the neck now. Somewhere there is a picture of a T/A Boss with fuel gushing out the vents as it is being fueled. The vent filter is under the quarter extension.
