Title: late 68 model year Z28 heads
Post by: bcmiller on August 03, 2014, 03:07:33 PM
OK, I know that most (possibly all?) 1968 Z28s used the 3917291 heads with 2.02 intake valves.

I looked at a very late (I think 3rd week of July) 1968 Z28 that did not have the original block but did have some of the original engine parts.

Owner THOUGHT the heads might be original.  But they were casting number 3927186 and dated June of 68.

Is there anyone that can confirm the 186 heads were used on any late model year cars?

Assuming the heads have the bolt holes in the ends; it's interesting they might have used them on a 68..  I guess the alt was on the drivers side?

Darrel, the engine was not complete and was out of the car.  But yes they did have the bolt holes.  Carb, intake, air cleaner, valve covers, rods, pistons and M21 were correct for this car

Personally I have not seen the 186 heads actually used late in the 68 model year, just wondering if anyone else has.

While not a Z, my 68 has no hole 041 heads. June 68 cast dates (F 27?) , 07 02 assy, and a 07E build. Keep in mind, I have the bosses on the heads, but not drilled and tapped.

I'm not familiar with your combo, but things happened late in production with the L-30's.
