Title: Distributor parts
Post by: 68Zproject on July 04, 2014, 04:50:04 PM
Found out my Pertronix distributor doesn't seem to work anymore and I've decided to go back to points.  Is there any one source for finding:  Good points, lubricator wick and stand, wire from points to coil, condenser?  Seems my original distributor is missing all but the points.   One of the screws that hold down the points as well, but I guess I could get that off an old distr.  I've found some of these things at corvette places but they want $10 just for the wick and stand.

I don't know of any source for buying individual distributor parts. Rick's sells complete rebuilt distributors ( except for the cap & rotor ) for around $100. One place you might check is a local starter/generator rebuilding shop. Some of those folks did distributors and may have some old ones just lying around. How long did your Pertronix last before it puked? I have one in my car and am curious. Good luck!

You could try NAPA. It's been a few years since I've worked there but there were certain part numbers I used for my cars.
CS89 Points, Higher spring rate than the CS786
RR-175 Condenser
RR-167R rotor
RR165 dist cap, black
Dist to coil wires were LW but I don't remember the number
Try to find an employee that has many years or it's just like walking into Checker or Autozone

I bought it about 7 years ago but my car has been down for about 2 years, so I guess it lasted about 5.  But that's only about 2,000 miles or so.  Lots of posts about people having trouble with them.  I poo-poo'd it until this happened.  Staying with points from now on.

68Z you might try calling Dave Chun Sr. at Super Tune in Vancouver,WA 360 (694- 9112)  if he don't have them he can tell you where to get them. He's been Super tuning 40 plus years.

CHP put Accels in mine . After I had it gone through.  21 years that  unit served in the Z with no problems.  Firing dual 660 center squirts at one time. These days I am a MSD fan, but the old single point is going back in it.....just don't leave the key on. ;)

Is there any source for the permanent lube at the upper distributor bushing and also the dust cover to seal the grease?
