Title: Bumper Finish
Post by: 67rs327 on June 23, 2014, 12:55:52 AM
Looking for coating suggestions for the back side of a bumper. Recrome is not part of the plan right now - really just looking to stop any further damage. Driver car. Outside finish is pretty good (not perfect) - but matches all the other 47 year old chrome. Thanks

Use something to neutralize the rust and just spray it with chrome spray paint to protect it.

I wouldn't worry about it. Or just spray some oil on it.

Have used this product with success on other stuff. http://www.cosmolinedirect.com/cosmoline-weathershed-industrial-grade-spray/

Use something to neutralize the rust and just spray it with chrome spray paint to protect it.

Do just that, or bead it and paint with either chrome or flat silver. Looks better than rust any day of the week.

I actually did that on my rear guards after re-chrome just to protect them better. Most chrome shops don't finish the backside (unless you are paying for it with a higher price).

Pour some evapo-rust in and let it soak and then preserve with some oil or just clean the rust scale off and paint on rust resolver which you can buy at Wall-mart, Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.

Thanks guys. I'll try a couple suggestions and see what looks best.
