I was on the local volunteer fire dept years ago and a barn fire happened and a 66 Corvette convertible was pushed out and saved from damage. Eventually the owner moved it to another guys where it was along a state road and everyone stopped to look. It wasn't for sale. It was blue, big block, 4 speed, Drivetrain gone. I can't remember how much interior was in it. Might have been 6-8 years ago. I now farm behind where the barn was and last 3 years its been parked there. Here's a sad site in head high weeds.

My brother in law figured I did when I was there. Place has a lot junk stuff around. Some kind of 50s looking pickup with no bed. Couldn't tell exactly, grass too high! It might be more project than I need!

I would be all over that Bill. Have a talk with that guy for me. A 65, 66, or 67 is on my list. It would be nice just to see pics of what it looks like under the tarp...
I know you have looked at picking up another car, maybe a Corvette is in your future. You never know what could happen, I have gotten a few cars just from staying in contact with guys, some of them actually part with them.
Some don't:
I was in a similar situation with a Corvette about ten years ago. It was a 64 vette that was a true barn find, and had the chicken feathers and mice infested interior to prove it. The lady wanted 50k back then! I thought why keep the car in that condition. She probably still is "storing" it in that barn.

That ladies family will end up dealing with a car that's a mess.
I am curious what's living in the vette! I don't remember the body being junk. I don't remember a top. I might look into it. I have no idea what it's worth either

Not much.... especially if the VIN is on a "hot list". That would be my biggest fear on one of these "Barn Finds". :)

Bill is a real cool cat, I wouldn't be able to resist going over and lifting the tarp to check it out. :o

I see it ! Glass body.... right ? mmm.... Hang it on a S & W chassis, can not imagine much left underneath :'( would make a nice toy to haul up to Norwalk Bill. 42 should be up and running next season. All new. Lots of fun running those Gasser meets.....just a thought ;D

I was working ground last night and there's a portable looking shed where corvette was. Well today its obvious car is not in shed. I think the guy is retired and might be there so that's the best you get! The 50s truck has moved but still outside. Place is a diaster

Ok..let me get this straight. This is the same green tarp pic and car from the very first post ? Was it moved to another location (looks like a different area) ? and are you able to approach the family ? Hell I'd be so damn nosy I'd be asking the family if I can just look at it and take pics to share with friends. ;D
I have a similar story.. well kinda but all the cars are Mopars. About a dozen of them sitting (rusting away) in an open lot surrounded by a 6 ft chain link fence with that green fencing material to hide them view. A total shame because I was told the guy won't sell, and they're 68-70's Chargers, Cuda's and Challengers. I did take pics of them, but just sad !

Same house but moved about 200 feet. My dad knows him and he owns it with another guy who won't sell it. I need to stop and visit and see if I can get better pics. The barn burnt like 15 years ago and I looked at it when it was sitting at a neighbors. No motor I don't remember any interior being in it but if it was is no account now. He told dad the motor is in the trunk but there is no trunk.. my dad won't admit it but his hearing isn't great either. It am pretty sure its a 66

Here's my theory: Guy knows he's never gonna fix it, probably can't; but hey he's got something somebody else wants and so it gets him attention. He also thinks he's got one of a kind. And like a little kid, he's got a toy he won't let anybody touch, and loves teasing them when they ask about it.

Since we're talking about Corvettes, here is another heartbreaker for ya! Guys from SW Virginia may already know about this one. My friend told me he found a supposed matching numbers '67 big block roadster. I didn't believe him at first so he ended up giving me the directions to where it was at so I could check it out for myself. Decided to take a drive out there and check it out and lo and behold there it was, a Lynndale blue 67 roadster with a hardtop sitting beside a trailer just sinking into the Virginia mud. My friend ended talking with the owner and the car is not for sale. He did find out that the owner bought the car in the early 70's and ended up having some mechanical problems with it and parked it with the intention of fixing it someday but it never happened. The owner confirmed that it is a tri-power car but my buddy didn't ask if it was an L71 or L68 car. He let my friend look at the car and he said it looks like it is all there with the original paint. It's a shame to have it sitting out like that. You would at least think he would cover it up. Here are a couple pictures I took of it when I went to see it.

It appears to have the 'optional '67' bolt-on aluminum wheels as well.. :) (KO Look a likes)..

Tarps rapidly accelerate corrosion and more so when a car is parked on soft ground.

The 'knockoff wheels' in earlier years had a spinner type NUT to retain the wheel. In '67, they eliminated the 'knockoff' feature, but retained the look/appearance of the KO wheels, but with bolt on functionality. Knockoffs have been known to 'come off suddenly'... sometimes with disastrous results.. :)

Nope; I think the factory 'spinner' you are referring to, went away with the Knock Off Wheels (I think the government might have been involved as well... although my memory is frail.. :) JohnZ probably knows whether that decision to eliminate the KNOCKOFFS was totally within Chevrolet/Corvette or if the government had involvement....

No, they didn't. One of the first MVSS (Motor Vehicle Safety Standards) regulations in 1966 (sponsored by activist Ralph Nader) banned "winged projections" on wheels or wheel covers, as he felt that it constituted a hazard to pedestrians.
BTW, no true Corvette knock-off wheel ever came off if it was installed correctly; people didn't read the instructions or let tire shops who didn't have a clue take them off and put them back on, and that caused problems.
After 1967, sets of Corvette knocik-off wheels sold over the parts counter came with large hex nuts instead of 3-eared spinners, and a box-end wrench to whack with the knock-off hammer - see photo below.
