Title: Carb Spring Bracket finish for 1969 L48
Post by: Boston14 on June 15, 2014, 03:33:53 AM
I need input from you all again.  I would like to know the finish on the carb. return spring bracket that mounts at the coil on a 1969 L48 engine.  This bracket is shown in the 1969 Assembly Manual under UPC L48 A3.  My bracket is currently painted orange, but I don't think that that is correct.  Since the bracket is shown in the assembly manual with a part # 3930791, it was added to the engine on the assembly line, so therefore I believe orange is wrong.  Am I correct in assuming the the bracket was painted black, or phosphated either light grey, dark grey, or black?  Also, what color was the carb. return spring? Was it light brown as Heartbeat City suggests? Or was it some other color. Your help will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Ground Up lists the return spring as black for a Quadrajet, green for a Holley. Hope this helps.

That's funny.
I just evapo-rust treated both the springs on mine.
One has residue of green paint inside the spring and the other is all black.
Guess the PO wanted to have the best of both?
I put them both back on since I didn't like the throttle feel with just either one of them.
;D

My coil bracket is dull aluminum-ish in color so maybe it was / is natural or it was phosphate, but not black as far as I can tell.

Here is a pic of an original bracket.
