Title: Switching from a pwrglide to a TH350
Post by: dab67 on October 09, 2006, 01:27:45 PM
Gentlemen:
Are there any major changes required if I wanted to change my pwrglide in my 67  to a TH350? How difficult would it be to keep the console intact with the shifter? Is there a kit that replaces the pwr glide numbering system to the 3 speeds in the TH350?

Just curious

You'll have to change the driveshaft yoke to the finer output spline of the 350 or an M-20 or M-21 yoke will work, but the driveshaft or crossmember won't have to be changed. Check the bolt pattern on the flexplate and be sure the 350 converter will bolt up, if not you'll need a 350 flexplate. Also, check the bolt hole alignment on your starter of you have to change flexplates--the straight pattern was for the smaller flexplate, the staggered pattern was for the larger 168-tooth flexplate. Pretty simple swap. I'd check with the repro companies about the console parts--the Turbo 400 stuff may be being reproduced now and will work. All in all, this is a fantastic swap to get rid of that "Slip-O-Matic". Low-end response is unbelievable compared to a Powerglide. Good luck.

Hotrod:

Thanks for the reply and info. Not sure what I am going to do, but now at least I have some idea on what I will need to replace and check before doing anything.

Swap is a piece of cake. I've done it to several cars. The only major part you need to find is the shifter linkage.
