Hey guys, I'm back again with another question...Were the plastic bags the owners manuals were in printed the same date as the owners manual? I had neither when I bought my Z but have since bought the correct dated manual. The plastic bag is dated 3-19-68 though whereas the manual is dated April 69 Third Edition for my 06A car. Anybody have their original bag still that can look? I think there were 3 versions of the manual but was wondering about the bag.

Z's 04D 68
bag 3-16-66 part#3834959
owner's manual 2nd edition, Nov 1967 part#3940153
owner's protection plan/warranty 2nd edition, 1967 part#3936265

Just the bag date will be fine. 1966? Does it have the square head key or the the octagon head key on the bag? Didn't early 68's use the same key as 67's and then change over to the square head? or was 69 the first year for the square head key. The 3-19-68 bag I have has a square head key on it. Gonna check that out and get back.
I found what I was looking for on the actual keys but so far nothing on the key printed on the poly bags and dates. 67 and 68 used similar keys and 69 was the first year for the new square head key. Kind of knew that already but was wondering if there as a transition involved or not.

Octagon head--same as keys for the car ,I have the originals. 2 sets. " Don't invite car theft!"
yes, 3-16-66, how many were probably made for GM ,tens of thousands ?
Just recently pulled these out of the glove box and now keep them safe.

Interesting on the printed dates. I'm gonna guess the bags weren't printed or revised? as much as the printed revisions of the manuals. So 'Jan' your bag is almost 2 years older than the car. I wonder if the 3-19-68 is fine for my June 69 car. Need more owners to check in with what they have with their cars.

My guess mass produced ,that's why I posted dates on owners manual and warranty/pop to show the time gaps. (everybody loves p/n's here) Also car was not delivered until 6-25-68. Summer of Love.
I sort of picture big boxes of these items being re-ordered as needed. Who still knows what took place when the "kid" just back from Vietnam went to pick up his new Z in June of 68. I do know he took the AIR system off in the parking lot ! LOL

Only pics I have of an original bag and owners manual.

Thought it was a pretty cool piece. Apparently he went in 3 months after buying the car and bought some rear shocks. Still have the originals that came on the car.

Gary.. I had the chance today to take a look at the bag containing my owner's manual and PTP (all original) for my '69 Corvette, which was built in August 1969. The bag is dated 3-19-68 part number 3950779, so the one you have (or were looking at?) should be perfect for your June car with that date.. :)

Good news then Gary. The bag I have has the same part number as well as the same date as your bag. So, as it was stated, the bags were mass produced for everything GM built.
Darrel your bag is dated the same as Janobyte's bag I bet. Love that Norwood card.
