Title: 1969 12 Bolt Vent Tube
Post by: bergy on May 18, 2014, 06:59:24 PM
This topic might be too far into the weeds, but is this the correct 1969 rear end vent tube?  I see them with green tops, black tops, etc.  This one appears as if it was all ivory or white color.

bergy,

I've never tried to 'read the writing on the top', but all the original vents I've seen are white/ivory in color...

My 67 12 bolts are ivory in color.

Not sure if they turned ivory over time but the corvette houses sell the exact vent tube but its white. Danco with the same lettering! Here is an example!

I'd say the white sure turned ivory/yellow over time.

I don't think there's any doubt that the 'new white' plastic turned yellow over time with age, heat, etc...

Chick, which Corvette vendor sells these vents (in all white as shown)?

Lloyd,

Bair's Corvettes (http://www.bairs.com) sells them. I got mine at Carlisle from them a few weeks ago.....a bank busting $1.00! 😄

Bob, I have run across several sources for the vent tube however none that offer an all-white version. The version listed in Bair's Corvette catalogue is multi-color and not correct for our cars.  Did you purchase an all-white one from them?

Lloyd,

Yes. It was the all white version and looks exactly like the one that Chick posted earlier. Perhaps their on-line catalog isn't up to date. I too, searched high and low for a long time to find the correct all white version and after stumbling across Bair's at Carlisle (and reading Chick's post) it was a no brainer to buy one. My rear still has the faded yellow vent tube but for a dollar I just couldn't pass it up.  ;D

You may want to give them a call. Ask for Brian...he's a real nice guy and I'm sure would be happy to help. Bair's riveted my upper ball joints about a year ago and do top notch quality work.

Let me know how you make out.

For sure Bob, Brian is a chip off the ol' block as his Dad is a great guy to talk to as well. Gee, a buck! Paid a few more for mine!

Lloyd, I ordered mine with some other Corvette stuff from Eckler's. What is shown on the website is a white and black version but they for sure have them along with other suppliers in all white but you might want to verify with whoever you choose to order from.

Concerning the Vent Tube-I thought or probably more correct to state I ASSUMED the vent tube was part of the rear differential assembly when painted. Or was it placed in after paint?

Got my answer as JohnZ said they were installed after paint.

I just ordered a few of them from Bair's - $2.75 each and shipping is realistic! sue beats NOS pricing
