I am at the point in the restoration of my car that I need some input from you. My fan shroud looks a little rough. There is no damage to the plastic, but, it just looks dull and dirty and has some writing on it. I just had my radiator restored with a new core w/proper upper and lower header bars, using the original tanks and brackets. The full gloss paint looks really good and I would hate to put a shabby looking shroud on it. This is the original shroud and any suggestions from you guys would be greatly appreciated.

What I've done with plastic parts is: Remove any paints etc... then Wash it .. scrub it.. dry it.. and then rub Lemon Pledge on it.. :)

This worked (and still works) for me - use a soft brush so you don't scratch the plastic, warm water and Dawn diswashing detergent, and scrub the shroud clean: be sure and get into all the corners and creases, then rinse and dry. Repeat if you have to to get all of the crud and residue off. The Dawn (and elbow grease) might get the crayon or grease pencil markings off the shroud as well. After it dries, coat it liberally with Armor All - you can use clear Detailer's Advantage, or even the clear Tire Shine (although Tire Shine takes longer to flash dry, and may initially look a little greasy). You'll be amazed at the difference and how close it looks to a brand new GM shroud, I know it sound overly simple, but I've done this on a couple of used shrouds that looked like junkyard rejects, and had them turn out like new. The Armor All also has the benefit of restoring a little flexibility and protects the shroud surface.
When you are as income restricted as I am towards my hobby, you have to make do sometimes. The effort is worth it -

you can use plastic lens polish to remove some of the aging.

Not trying to Hi Jack your post, but I have a questions regarding your fan shroud. What plating if any is supposed to be on the center bolt for a 69 shroud ...Plated or non-plated. I have been told both, but still not sure which one is the factory correct finish.

Well, it took me longer to get back to the shroud than I figured, but that's about par for the course. Anyways, I scrubbed and washed and scrubbed some more and most of the shroud cleaned up except for the top surface. The surface had a different look to it so I took some lacquer thinner and applied some to a small area on a rag. Yep, that was it, the top surface had been painted black. Got it all cleaned off with the lacquer thinner and it looks pretty good now. It has a couple of scrapes and some very faint writing, but overall looks almost new.

Came out real well, looks dang good to me. You could probably get those scratches out with some 320 or 400 paper. anything finer will probably give it a shiny appearance and stand out worse. Might want to try an area in a spot not seen easily to get the desired look. A small file my be of use too.
