Title: Source for correct rivets to install heat stove
Post by: Mikes69_Coupe on May 09, 2014, 04:27:20 AM
Howdy all. As I said in an earlier post, I'd like to remove the ex manifolds to de-rust them and install a new heat stove. Does anyone have a source for the correct rivets (and the 1 small bolt - or screw?) to attach it? How about a good method of removal for the original rivets and bolt - screw?? Was thinking of trying to use a chisel to pry them out, or just cut 'em, drill 'em, and replace. I want to go this route because this is an unrestored original ;D. Ideas?

Y'all take care,
Mike.

If they are like the rivets under the intake manifold, you should be able to 'chisel' them out and preserve them for re-use...

thanks 69Z28-RS. Not much chance - they're pretty well gone due to the rust, just a small part of the head left - which is why the original stove fell of somewhere :-[. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Bought mine from GM. I'll have to scrounge around to find them - the same type of spiral shank rivet was used on the oil splash shield under the intake. You can pry them out of old intakes if you can find a couple - usually pretty good condition (and I would do like restorers do, don't use them under the intake when you rebuild one - might work loose. Drill and tap for a good capscrew replacement). The original rivets have spiral shanks, not threads, and just tap into place.

Regards -

On E-bay not mine but I used them for stoves on a manifold I restored...they worked OK.
