I thought since many of you are now paying the $50 to find out what dealer originally sold your Camaro, you may be looking for original dealer license frames, key chains or memorabilia from the original dealer that sold your car. I have been on the lookout for the original dealer license frames that sold my car "Jim Edelbrock Chevrolet"from plymouth Michigan, but I have had no luck. BUT I have helped a handful of guys locate original dealer license frames and key fobs along the way. So while I am trying to locate original frames for mine, I thought as you guys are learning who was the original dealer and if you would like to locate some original license frames, just post up who your original dealer was, as I run across them I will help as many guys as I can locate them. (if anybody else wants to help out, great!)
There are a few guys like Gary who got the original frame with their car, and I think it just looks cool to have another piece of originality to our cars if possible.

I got very lucky last year. I punched in a search on Ebay for the dealership name where my 66 Chevelle SS original black plate CA car was purchased from new, and low and behold an excellent condition, original old dealership license plate frame came up. I grabbed it. I still check from time to time on Ebay for that dealer and for my 07A X77 car dealership in case something new pops up.
-
which dealer(s) are they for your Chevelle and Camaro?
-
The dealer on my shipping report ( Clark Hatch Chevrolet) was in business from 1955 and sold it in 1972. I might have a hard time finding anything from them but you never know.
-
My 66 Chevelle dealership (Gustafson Chevrolet, Eureka Ca.) and was in business from 1964 to 2000.
My 69 Z was purchased new from Wilkins Chevrolet in Norfolk Va. They are now called Bay Chevrolet but are still owned by the same family.

What city was that?

Roger Dean Chevrolet in Charleston WV is where our 68Z came from. Have BOS and other docs that original owner gave me. They sold out in the early 70's but have dealership/s in FL.
Ammon R Smith in York, PA is where we purchased our 69 L78 Nova. I'm always looking for their stuff. :)
Goodwin Chevrolet Corporation in Salem, Va is where our 69 L34 Nova came from. Just know they are out of business! Need to check them out more! Address was 1337 W. Main Street.
Submitted request for our 69Z to obtain info so we will see.

My car also has the metal plate affixed to the rear panel with the dealership name... I used to want to remove those things, and even made it a condition of new car orders, that they not be affixed.. but I think I'm going to just remove, clean, and reinstall this one.. and the tag bracket/frame as well...
-
Gar, I, too, in the day, would have removed or stipulated that no insignias/placards be placed on my car(s). In the case of my old cars, with the desire to preserve and add a little nostalgia these days, my mind has me leaving or even adding some of the dealer embellishments to give the car some uniquness and a look of an untouched "time capsule". So, count me in on these small added feautures like a decal, placard or license frame. Some close friends gave me a license frame and a placard for the closed down dealer that was in our small town where I live now. I know or am real sure my car did not come from this dealer, but since I don't know and may never know, this will have to do.
-
Dealer on my Z was Jack Lempke in Youngstown Ohio. They are closed or sold. Only thing I found on Google was a break in around 68. Owner paid $3500 cash and remember the street name. Also mentioned a lot of legal and not legal racing running a best of 12.98. I assume it was with headers 4.88 gears and 140 cam.
-
Eaton Chevrolet in Washington D.C.
Haven't seen anything for them anywhere. Closed in the 70s I believe but the building is still there.
Don't know where the 68 came from, still have not submitted my info to NCRS.
-
Chick I assume you already have one of these:

Chick I assume you already have one of these:
Yep, and note yours is one of the originals. Thanks for asking as one never knows.
-
That one isn't owned by me, just an auction. I have seen a handful of them on ebay. Do you have it on your car, or just as a display piece?
-
Its fun to collect the old dealer stuff
my 67 Camaro was from Burt Chevrolet in Englewood CO
found these items on ebay all less then $10
you need patience as it takes years for the stuff to pop up
-
Cool items. You are correct it takes patience waiting for them to be found or be listed for sale. It also depends on the dealer, and how much they advertised.
-
After finding out yesterday that my car was from Smith Motor Sales in San Antonio and seeing this thread made me curious so I got on ebay and found a dealership postcard picture and a matchbook. Got them both for less than $20 total. With a huge amount of luck, there might be a gold '67 in the dealer window of the postcard pic ;D
-
WTG, thats what its all about. When you do your search on ebay, *hit the option to save the search. This way ebay will email you if anything pops up, and you don't need to do a search everyday. 8)

Even though I am very appreciative of what Roy and the NCRS are doing, it would have been cool if this could have been done a few short years ago before the big GM bankruptcy and forced dealership closings. There might have been a better chance of some old paperwork still being available. I'm sure now that the NCRS information is out that a lot of the dealers that are either still in business or have changed ownership will be getting a lot of calls. Some of them will be polite and helpful but most will not be very friendly and feel like their time is being wasted.
When I purchased my 66 SS Chevelle with the POP many years ago I researched the dealership and called them. They informed me that it had changed ownership a few years earlier and they had no information to offer and were not very helpful. They made me feel like I was bothering them. I guess in reality I was :)
-
I knew the dealer that originally sold my car (due to the plaque affixed, and the tag frame). Sometime after I purchased the car in '76 (it might have been as late as 1980 or so), I went by the dealership and asked if anyone had worked there in '69.. There were a couple of salemen, etc who had been there when the dealership opened in '68. When I explained and described my car (I was not driving it - although that might have triggered some memories and maybe got some help), they told me the old records had been stored and then destroyed... :(
Forward 30 yrs... Last weekend we had a large car show in an adjacent town, and I ran into an old friend who had been in the Chevrolet parts business for many years since the late '70's or early 80's.. He now works at that dealership (Joe V Clayton Chevrolet in Arab, AL). After the car show, I gave his daughter a ride in my ZR1 and he and his wife followed me home in their truck (48 Chevy rat rod but nice).. When he saw my Camaro, his wife commented.. look it was sold at Joe V... and he said. I wish I'd known you had that car a couple of years ago, before they tossed all the old records (He told me they had those records in the attic, but they only tossed them 2 or 3 years ago!~)..
Basically this story is intended just to point out that even if they have the records, they don't want to spend the time/effort to go thru them to find YOUR sales paperwork.. (I had even offered to pay them for the time way back when.. and offered to come and help.. but no dice!..)
Gary

You guys could offer up a shot of your car in front of the dealership--little promo stuff.

Currently a display piece that can be placed on the car anytime. Current one on car is a repro!

Maybe we should start a thread of dealership info and advertisement material used.
-
might be cool, this thread for guys looking, another thread for items found.
-
Chick are the bumper guards rare, I've never seen them on that year Nova? If that car was in black and white would look like back in the day.
-
"might be cool, this thread for guys looking, another thread for items found."
Good idea Bullitt, I vote since you started this thread that you start the new one. :)
Here is the license plate frame that I found on ebay for my 66 Ca. Chevelle. I also have the original black Ca. plates so was very excited to find this. I missed a Gustafson hat by a hair right before I found this.
I also am in contact with the dealer that sold my 69 Z and hopeful they might come up with some original paper work and or memorabilia.
I enjoy the hunt!
-
That license frame is cherry!
I would take the original license frame over a hat any day. (but I know you would have liked to have both)
I was hoping if I started this thread that would have been enough karma for me to find the Edelbrock Chevrolet license frame I am after....
I think its going to take a lot more good will on my part... :D
-

To be honest Vince, those were not on when I ordered and purchased the car. They were added in the later 80's! Here is a picture of me at YorkUS30 in the later 1970's and you can note no bumper guards.

Yes!
I was in the USAF during the '68-72 period stationed at Keesler AFB on the MIssissippi gulf coast, a fella who worked at Paul Vanderley's Speed Shop (right out gate 7) had one of those.. with big gears and slicks, a Tarantula TM-2 manifold and a big Holley (all of it prepped by him).. it was the fastest car along the coast on the street.. He had a standing $100 bet against anyone .. and I don't recall him ever losing... :) .. and the car was beautiful too.. :)

I'm looking for Piedmont Chevrolet-Oldsmobile (Culpeper, VA) stuff if you ever run across anything.

Looking for anything regarding Gene Jantzen Chevrolet in St. Louis, MO
Ed

I have seen items for Piedmont Chevrolet, let me see if I can find them.

Thanks, '67 in particular.

My car was delivered to George Olsen Chevrolet in San Francisco. Would be interested in a set of license plate frames. Martin

I found a license frame, but it looks like they sold oldsmobiles as well:

Question re original tag frames:
I have the (an?) original tag frame that was on my car since before 1976 that I assume is original, BUT it's fairly pitted. The tag frame was a cheap chrome it appeared, and then had a background color (black), and a 'name' color (white) painted on it. It doesn't look bad, but it would look much nicer if it was rechromed and repainted.. :)
My question is... Should I restore the tag frame? or leave it as is??
-
and here is a company that makes new license plate frames, that would/could probably make you whatever you wanted... even the dealership name (as long as it's defunct)? or if you have permission from the dealership??
http://www.cafepress.com/+license-plate-frames?utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=msn&utm_campaign=product%20only%20-%20us&utm_content=search-ad&utm_term=license%20plate%20frames
-
Thanks BULLITT65, George Olsen Oldsmobile was a name change in the 1970's so wouldn't be correct for 1968.
-
mine still has the dealer emblem from day 1

I've been collecting Roger Dean , Charleston WV, stuff for close to 30 years! Heres some of it:

Well if you are presenting your car as original mostly unrestored, why would you restore the frame??
-
The tag frame didn't come from Chevrolet.... dealer 'add on'.... doesn't count.. :)
-
it has perfect patina just the way it is. I would just use some 0000 fine steel wool on the chrome, and run it as is. 8)

All depends on who is looking at it and the standards they go by...
So do Yenko decals count? Dealer add on?
Steve, I think it looks great! The car and the garage! Nice car! Takes me back....

:o
I could not believe it, I had a frame hanging on the wall,,,matched the reported dealer! My state records search ended in a dead end in 1975.
Bothell Brothers Chevrolet-Cadillac INC. of Auburn Washington, Dealer Code # 47 Zone # 42.
4/21/1969
Dealer History: Bothell was born in Seattle on March 28, 1930, to the late Howard Sr. and Dorothy Bothell, founders of the Bothell Chevrolet Company in Auburn that later became Bothell Brother’s Chevrolet. Bothell and his brother, Howard Bothell Jr., took over the family business, eventually changing the name to Auburn Chevrolet. The brothers sold the family business in 2001. The dealer is still open as Auburn Chevy.
Looking forward to search for many more dealer items at the local swap meets.
Jim

very nice, I like the frame.

HELP!
Hi guys,
Now I really need your help here!
I finally got my SDR today and it says as follows:
Dealer code 784 in zone 3.
Dealer name and location was:
Svanda-Meyer Chevrolet , Inc
Sparta, Illinois
Does anybody have anything like license frames or other merchandise from this dealer?
Searching the net resulted in just the fact that the dealer still exist, just slightly changed the name to Svanda Chevrolet Buick GMC!
...otherwise it's rather empty on the net! :(
Is there someone living in Sparta, Illinois that could belt a fellow Camaro-owner ....? ;)

Did you try NCRS site under Dealer Zones and Numbers?

Did you try NCRS site under Dealer Zones and Numbers?
Hi, Vince,
No I haven't! ;)
...how does it work? I've just added my dealer code there! Svanda still excist as a Chevrolet and GMC dealer and I asked about old stuff but nothing is left! :(
-
All that site can do is confirm/identify the zone number, dealer number, and dealership name, and address for you... Just put in your zone and dealer number and enter.. if the dealership is *known*, it will be identified.
-
Some cool stuff here... I've been looking for anything from Broncho Chevrolet Co., Odessa, TX
[Dealer Code 19, Zone 39]
-
Check out the NCRS Dealer Zones and Numbers, there is some information on zone 39 Dealer 19. You might check out old news paper ads from the 60's. Also check E bay for dealer plates etc..
