This might be the first link of a car I have put on here. looked like an original paint z with documents. Thought someone might be interested. I have seen this place have ads before like they sell your car for you. Always wondered how that works and why pay someone to list your car on ebay!

Impressive car, throughout. Great documentation, 05E California car (Norwood, but California docs), non-console, showing 54K miles. Awfully complete - this one has been stored (near salt air ?) for along time. Probably original rally wheels, too - look at the 15X6 narrow trim rings. 8300 VIN's away from my early June car. Also looks like a 116 smog pulley, hard to tell, but has the appearance.
This one will make an excellent candidate for somebody - if I had the wherewithal, I'd buy it in a Heartbeat -

I thought the same thing, a lot of good things on the car as long as its not rotten. odd how the paint has come off it.

Lots of receipts, can't really make out what was done. Well taken care of early in it's life it appears. Shame when it hit the time line were someone stopped loving it. Interior looks in great shape. Rust....probably covered with a plastic tarp trapping moisture....gotta breath. If all is what's claimed ,great project for the right price. A lot less 68's built ,and how many are still surviving with the original engine and drive train ? Yup--partial to 68's and 67's.

That's a bad deal with the place that lists it. They probably know nothing. Maybe they give owners number. Somebody on here should be near there!

Maybe the saltwater starts breaking the paint down over the years ,and with moisture trapped. I've seen cars with bad paint prep begin rusting like that....half @#$ job priming in high humidly. Just a thought ,right now I'm an expert on lawn mowing ! 500 hours on the mower's meter, 95 on the boat's which I've had longer if that's saying anything! My buddies get a kick out of that. They kid me knowing I'd rather detail it than take it out ,never docked. SBC powered of course.

Yup, salt air. Some of the docs show the original owner lived in Pebble Beach, CA. Right on the California Coast!

Ha,got about that in a low mileage 20 yo's college tuition this year.
Really like to see that car saved and restored ,can't look at the pics anymore....you all know the conversation took place were " I'm going to get to fixing it up" as it sat decaying. I'd like to see you have that car Darrell, know you have a sweet spot for 68's ,might as well have a pair !

Its coming. Motors out, on the stand and everything looks good at this point. Clayed the tops of the pistons today and the P to V clearance is about 0.050" Still scratching my head as to how the problem happened. My thinking is the springs may be close to coil binding at above idle or the springs are too leak for the cam. Next will be to have the heads looked over and a new set of springs installed. Then it'll go back together. Cam, lifters, cylinder walls and bearings all look good. Still debating on whether or not to reuse the current cam or go with a solid roller. Time will tell. 8)

Yes I do have a soft spot for the 8's. Especially the early Z's with the 302 emblems but I still would love to have this one as well. Maybe down the road once I finish the red car then I can start the search for another one. Little lady wants a 55 or 57 first though.. Trying to convince her that 55's are the better of the 2. Not to mention on favorite tri-5. ;)

I would love to buy this car, butternut yellow too! Just one question, is that a double-strike on the 'V' of the pad stamp? Not suggesting anything amiss, and maybe it's just the way the photo displays on my iPad.

Not all that uncommon to have 'stamp bounce' from what I've seen, but it usually appears with all or at least the adjacent ones in the string being somewhat affected by or with the same issues.. in this case from what my poor eyes can decipher it appears that just the 'V' appears affected which is kind of strange as it was a gang stamp procedure from what I know.
My early Z has this also and all the digits display some 'echo' - but in my case it gets progressively less pronounced towards one end of the string..
Is a 44**** series stamping in line with a 05 month date? I thought that seems kind of low considering, but I will defer to more learned opinions?
Too bad the other casting numbers aren't shown or mentioned as well..
Considering all of the rust on the sheet metal in addition to any and all of mechanical bits as shown, even if the body is solid and those are actually 'born with' guts, it would require a substantial investment on top of the final selling price to bring it back certainly.
It's bad it wasn't stored better - it would have been a real keeper!

I wish somebody from CRG that lived close would go look at it. So we can get pictures of the Trans, Rear-End, and just the whole underside of the car. Plus more casting numbers throughout. The description is SO vague >:(
I would say if it was a Lemans Blue RS it would bring the bigger money. Don't get me wrong, I like the color. My first ever Camaro was BY with the RS package. Had the POP also, sold it for 5K... Rats.... I think since this has SO MUCH documentation, that if it all pans out... 30K ? Danny

Love the look of this car, can't beat bias plys on DF rallys. Doesn't look like there's a thing wrong with it. Add some new tires and hoses and I'd drive it like it sits. Hmm...what could I sell for 25k in a jiffy? :)

Just found it for sale elsewhere...Punched the VIN in on the world wide web and found it 3 times at 3 different places for big money. OUCH, all 3 adds showed wanting 45K!!! Better find something worth more than 25K... Too rich for my blood. POP and docs worth a few bucks, but not 20K more!!! ... Danny

$19,600 on eBay at the present moment. I agree with JKZ27 - I believe I would bring this car back to the edge and drive it.
Maybe too soft a spot in the heart for a Z like this - it deserves better care than it's experienced for a long time -

Take a look at the transmission stamps, what do ya all think?. I talked to him for an hour a couple days ago and showed him where to look and where to take the pictures. I was just getting ready to edit them when they showed up on the auction. Looks good? ... Danny

Cool car (I have an Oct 67 build Z) but the price is really up there. I think a good driver condition 68 with original motor is around mid 30s - sound right?

I can't recall the last time (if ever), I've seen an original '68 Z28 as complete as that one... I like it, but I'm a bit weird.. :) I strongly prefer original completeness vs restored repro cars...

I guess if I had to think about it I would choose one ALL finished and completely original. But I still like the thrill of these kinds of survivor cars. I am just not in great health right now, so couldn't take it on. Although my buddy wants to go in together and buy it. Ya never know. But yes, I know of probably 6 cars I would like to have right now. Here is a couple three below....Danny

I was thinking the same thing. Gary must not have seen Chicks build thread over on Team Camaro. Hands down the nicest 68 Z restoration I have seen to date.

No, I haven't seen his build thread... I've only been 'back on' my Camaro for 3-4 yrs, and I don't often get to TC, except to check out the classified, or to post a 'how to' question. Please note: I'm not 'casting aspersions' at anyone's restored Camaro, especially not Chick's, whom I've learned to be a very knowledgable Camaro enthusiast during my time here at CRG. I was only saying that *I personally* prefer to buy original unrestored cars, the nicer and more complete the better, than a 'restored' car (esp one that I didn't KNOW as a Z28 before the restoration). It's difficult-impossible to ascertain 'after the fact', whether the perfectly restored part on the restored car was in fact ORIGINAL to that car, or not! Coupled with the fact that this Z28 in question is 'complete' wtih smog/etc (obviously original to the car) makes it VERY UNUSUAL... and I like it very much! :)

Not bashing you Gary just giving you a hard time. If you get time look through his build thread. It is about as nice a restoration as you can get with the majority of the parts being original or NOS.
Get a cup of coffee and be prepared to look for a couple hours. ;D

That seems like the top of the mark I guess. A little scared as the title is NOT in his name. Anybody know how the DMV transfer fees work if you bring a car in to your own state. I guess ya could just use the last guys title, but what about fee's? We have "non-op" here, but it's gotta be clear FIRST. And what if this car has hundreds or thousands in back fee's due in other states? Do they go away during transfer to another state? CA sucks as a State period, and has SO many rules and regulations to follow. I don't know, pretty scary.... Danny

I agree with Gary, without seeing the resto I know Chick does quality work. BUT for me, there is something about an original driver, that is in good condition.
This particular 68Z I think if it was mine I would just thoroughly detail it the way it is. I have a couple of knowledgeable paint guys in town, and I would bring the car to them to get their opinion on how to buff and polish the existing paint. You would be surprised how they can use todays products to bring the luster back to old paint. After trying to protect and bring back all the original finishes, I would just drive it baby!
P.S. Danny in recent years California has changed its stance, and the seller is responsible for back fees, not the buyer .

Opinions vary ,and I truly respect everyone's, but I'll probably always be in the camp of restoring, or whatever the popular term is now. But yea ,even I'd drive it as is for a summer or two ! Certain "cool" factor.

I wouldn't mind bringing this 68Z home either, but I don't think there is much existing paint to save.

Jano, there's a preservation component of having an original unrestored car.. One has to PRESERVE what is there, and prevent any further deterioration. I agree with you on the *no paint rusty* spots of taht car.. if there's no paint left, and rusty metal.. you can to do something to that part.. but you don't have to paint the entire car. you can take those little spots down to metal, condition and prime them, and then touch up or paint just those sports, or an entire panel.. your choice. It's still an unrestored (survivor) car, and if it's protected the way you will protect your restored car, it will last jsut as long, and *might* last longer.. :)

Those rusted places will need filled and leveled. I can't think spotting as much has it needs would look right. At least it appears all the parts are with it
