Yesterday 2 guys crash landed a kit built helicopter in one of our fields. It was corn stalks and burnt about 10 acres. Wrong fire department was called and they didn't bring a truck to drive in the field so fire had a good start.
The guys are going to be fine after a neighbor pulled them away from wreckage.
Helicopter was small enough it fit on a rollback. Wasn't much left. It must have been an aluminum block because it melted! You can see valves in one picture

Wow, looks like they are very lucky to have made it out alive!
-
man that is some tiny helicopter. I could fit the leftovers in my curbside recycle container. Makes me think of the copter in mad max:
-
glad nobody was hurt. Will the charred field affect planting on the next go around?
-
The stalks that burnt act like mulch and hold moisture in the summer. Eventually it turns into organic matter. Place that burnt is high ground that could use mulch and organic matter.
We blew up one picture and you can see a piston and rod laying to the left of the head. My dad drove back to it and said you could see sleeves but the block was gone.

Probably a Rotorway Inc helicopter like the Exec 162.
-
I think that's the name in the newspaper. Might have said a 2006
-
Good deal no one was hurt and the fire got stopped. Doesn't look like the helicopter will buff out, though. Got anything planted, Bill? I'm waiting to see what the weather does next week. Doesn't sound promising, though.
-
No planting in our local area. Just a little wet but ground is too cold. I sprayed some Friday . Next week isn't looking good. Chance of rain about every day.
-
Just about May, I thought things had warmed up in your neck of the woods
-
Struggling to get to 60 some days and nights were cold. 66 today and tomorrow chan e of rain about all week. I think Thursday might be high 50s. Ground temp needs to be mid 50s for good germination
-
were in the same boat as you Bill, rain tonight and every day next week. temps still in the low to mid 50`s as well. up north in Minnesota here :(
-
That was my issue even when it warms up its another summer of road repairs to all the pot holes and ruined asphalted from the freezing and thawing of water on the road. Whats worse is, in Indiana when they "repave" outside the city they just throw down a bunch of crushed rock and let all the cars drive on it to crush and compress it, which just throws a ton of rocks up to chip your paint, and the guy behind you. It seems so backwards to me. But the politics is backwards out here on the left coast, so I guess it all evens out...

Still crappy here in NH. 41 this a.m. w/rain (snow I hear up north) 1st decent size flea market scheduled for today - didn't bother to go as most booths are outside.
At this rate the '67's not going to hit the road until the 4th of July!.

About 70 here, still. ;)
Rainy season has started so it's clear in the morning and overcast/rainy later.
Hopefully our bananas will get ripe before we leave...
