I'm glad I have the original one, if I didn't, I'd do without OR buy a repro... :)

I've had this fuel line bracket for a while however it's not correct for my 4C build date Z. For those of you who have an original, is this a real one or a re-pop?

Tim, what prompted me to post the question was the manufacturer's stamp <Pr> on the eBay listed bracket appears to be the same stamp on the bracket I posted.

Interesting observation Paul. There are clear similarities between the Paragon logo and bracket stamp however the font, stylized "R" and surrounding brackets are formed differently. I checked their web site and couldn't locate a bracket like this and its not clear if they are an agency vendor or also commission parts manufacturing.  I'd like to get to some closure.

Thought of 'PR' for Paragon Reproductions, but can't think of any similar examples of a reproduction item of this nature on which the reproducer marks their logo in a prominent place.

That price is just crazy;   seriously it is.   My car has one; original (I think) it was on there when the car was bought when I was 18.  It was all bent and
needed straightened.   Never has it crossed  my mind that someone would expect a price like that for one!

I emailed Paragon last night and haven't heard back from them yet. If anyone has a repop bracket from HBC or Paragon, please post a photo, I'd be interested to see if the Pr stamp belongs to Paragon.

In the photos its pretty crusty, so I'll see it there are any visible stampings/markings tonight.

At one time I really believed in the supply and demand side of these specific Z28 parts and prices, but IMHO it's much more then that now. Is there a cut off point when the price is way out of line or does the price just keep going up? and WHO are the ones going to able to afford these parts? Definitely takes the fun out of it for me. I have a DZ block I want to sell outright or make an even trade for a numbers alternator but seem to fall short either way, but yet there are sellers on ebay asking some big money for these 2 specific parts but never sell them. So why are they holding onto these parts? IDK, just saying.

The bracket on my 11A Z28 has "Stamp Rite" stamping.  I also have another bracket with the "PR" stamping and if I remember correctly its a repop that I purchased from Classic Industries in approx 1987. Don't know if the repops now have that stamping or none.

After following up with Paragon and providing them photos of the bracket and manufacturer's stamp (photos previously posted), here is what they reported back (combining 2 emails):

Subject: RE: Fuel Line Support Bracket - Paragon Number: 2053K

"We still manufacture this part and still sell it under part# 2053K for
$22.00 dollars. I currently have 42 in stock. This is what's left of the 500
we produced in 2009.The "PR" stamp is ours and stands for Paragon Reproductions"

It is clear and confirmed the bracket with the <Pr> stamp is their reproduction part.

Now that it's clear his part WAS a Paragon reproduction part, it's REALLY funny that he says in his ad  "1969 Z28 used original rear fuel line bracket the attaches to the carburetor. Has the manufacturer stamp on it. Rare find. Don't use repo parts. Free Shipping via USPS Priority Mail with insurance"   and ONLY $500 (starting bid) for this used $22 reproduction part???  :)

There was one that sold in May 2012 on EBay for $504.  The bidding started at 99 cents.  It was EBay item auction number 220998003115.

I've dealt with him a couple of times and have even talked with him on the phone. He always seems very knowledgeable and honest and has a lot of hard to find NOS and original parts that are always very pricey. From my dealings with him I am very surprised that he sold a repop part  and called it a "original GM part" for that crazy money. Just goes to show one has to be very careful and do lots of homework on any parts with any seller.

That maybe be a tough one. The 69 AIM has part number 187875, item #13, UPC Z28 A3, page 471. Looking on the AMK Fasteners website the part number doesn't show that it's available. Maybe someone here can post a pic or two with specs that has one and you can pick something up local.

You probably know this already, but....

do you have a 69 Z/28 made during or after July/August 1969?

according to JohnZ, “The added fuel line clip/bracket didn’t start until around July/August 1969.”

I went down and took a few photos to help you identify the original bracket and screw.   My bracket and screw were brown with 'patina'.. :)  until I recently cleaned them in Evaporust..   so it should be a bit easier to see now.

Photo for the installed bracket (labeled Stamp Rite), with screw head showing.
Photo for the screw head (no markings observed, 1/4")
Photo for the screw length (1/2" screw thread, coarse or self tapping thread?)..

I hope these help..

The seller had an auction in progress a week or so ago, for a 992-dated 4053 carb complete with the fuel line, y-block and the carb stud support & screw. Made no specific mention of the fuel line support in the description. I was watching it closely to see what it went for. Got bid to ~$150 and then was ended early, reason given "there was an error in the listing". I'll bet someone either tipped the seller off, or they did some research after a question was asked, and realised those parts were desirable on their own; seller now has the carb and fuel line listed separately, and support is described in detail, including the 'STAMP RITE'. Listing also says: "From what I have been told, this setup is extremely rare and tough to find."
As a frequent ebay seller myself, it's fair that the seller realised what they had (by whatever means that occurred) and hence won't part with it for a low-ball price. But as a lover of our hobby, I hope the final price is fair and it sells to someone who will put it on their car, and doesn't get bid to ridiculous levels by the big money-men, or flipped for a fat profit shortly afterwards.

maybe, but to me crazy is $500 for a repop worth $20.

an original bracket for someone with an original Z that really wants that part.....it's probably worth the $625.78 to them.

It just amazes me the money folks will spend on little things. I was never rich so I'm just going to do without even if I do have a Z28. That's half a house payment for me.

Can't imagine anyone else buying it, big risk for a 'flipper' that they may not get their money back.
Then again, maybe they'll sit on it for a few years and then break the $1,000 mark

Yes it is! Take that bracket and the power booster Z/28 hose bracket that recently sold and one has close to $1100! The detail stuff has gone out the roof!

The thing that puzzles me is don't the guys reproducing parts realize they could probably triple the price of their parts if it was exactly as original and people would buy them. Would you pay $60 for a correct bracket?  Many better parts I see are 80% correct but not 100%.  We are fortunate to have so many parts available. George.

Tim, its actually the same one that recently sold for $625, this time the previous buyer is selling it without the fuel line & distribution block.

Good detective work Lloyd, I guess you could tell that from the number of feedback stars of the previous buyer being the same as the new seller?
Pity that it appears it's being flipped again so soon, but perhaps the current seller only bought it for the original fuel line, and didn't need the support bracket.....

Correct, the Buyer's (who is now the Seller) eBay feedback score was identical and the abbreviated eBay member name fit.

Auction ended early "because there was an error in the listing". It only had 1 bid ($50) at the time, so presumably the owner accepted an offer and sold outside of ebay.

I was finally in front of my car last night and one of the first things I did as I was checking out the motor, was to take a close look and see what stamp was on mine..... "stamp rite" , I felt like I won the lottery.......

A great feeling all due to a 10 cent bracket from 1969 ;D

There was a fella at the Nationals this year that noticed my car had a reproduction bracket on my car. He pulled an original out of his back pack and educated me on the proper stamping. He was selling the original one for $300. I think he saw my reaction and followed up with he sold another one for $400 on eBay so it was a decent price for a hard to find item. Seeing as how I recently paid $200 for the correct (4 thin ring) spark plugs I thought he may be  in the range of what these sell for.  I told him I was going to pass but would think about it (needed to do some research). He asked when my car was built. When I replied with February, he said my car did not come with this bracket so I should take the repop off and be glad I didn't have to worry about it.

I think he is right it seems that only the later cars got this bracket.
Consider yourself lucky, since who ever bought the one on your car, only wasted a little money on it, could have been worse.

any thoughts of what the bracket was plated or painted? mine had remnants of black paint like a dipped part. after looking at Garys and I found this pic of a 21,000 mile car thats on the board

I've always thought it was the later built cars that got this bracket too, even though adds say correct for "all" Z/28 302's.    I don't see any remnants of one ever being on my Z/28, 12/68 build.

the earliest I've seen anyone report on in our CRG discussions is around May or June '69...  even though the drawing shows it for late '68...   JohnZ responded to that (seeming) discrepancy in one of his posts on those threads, stating that the change didn't go into production at the drawing approvals, but at another point (and I can't recall the exact words he used so I won't try).. :)

Anybody commenting on the 26 buck repop? My car does not have one but I like the looks. Would it have came on the L78 as well?

It's not clear to me that the bracket does very much??  maybe it supports the rear of the fuel line/distribution block, but it doesn't seem to be much weight on the fitting above regardless.... maybe they were getting complaints of that rear fitting 'leaking' fuel??

Thanks, I figured it was sometime later in production.

My guess Gary is that it's there to help with vibrations, that could possibly fatigue and crack the fuel line over time.....maybe.   Don't know if there are a ton of reports of that happening but that might explain why it was phased in at a later date?   Other than that, I see no need for it.   Glad mine never got one, I'm not paying $300 for a piece like that.  If I had to, I'd go straight for the $25 repop because I see nothing wrong with it, other than a different stamp.  Don't think anyone looking at the car would care much about that.

Been watching for one of these on eBay for about a year.  They don't appear very often.
Even so, I bid to 50 and might go a bit higher, but not into 3 figures.  The repop is very good for an item like this and I already have one of those.  Maybe once my restore is farther along and I have a better handle on costs I can look harder at these kind of things, but I've got a long way to go.
