Hello! I have a non X code 69 camaro with a build date of 10B. 57 57 paint with 721 interior. It has the hole in the firewall for the muncie speedometer cable. Factory discs on the front. The fenders appear to be original to the car. The Z28 emblems appear to be original to the car. Can see some green under the black repaint job done around 1989. On the side of the floor pan hump it reads 1969 CHEV, 1ST DRK GREEN REAR B/SS/37 9/23/68. Can anyone tell me what any of this means?

There are other documented cars that have light green interiors having LG7. That IS your X code! Unless I am mistaken, it is a non style trim Z28!!!

Are you talking about the magic marker writing on the trans tunnel? I don't see anything else there. That did not come from the factory that wat

LG =Light Green 7= X77

I have that same "LG7" yellow crayon marks on my rear bulkhead. "LG" is "Light Green" interior color. "7" is for the x-77 trim. The car I have was a light green color custom trim level car built 10A of '68
"My" interpretation of this mark - The Fisher body line needed a clue of what color to spray the interior areas that are visible once the car is finished. The light green interior color will show through the air vents and probably other places so they had to paint that before the interior trim was installed. THe CRG has not weighed in on this but that is my best guess. You and I are close in build week so it makes sense to me that they were marking them that way at that time.
The black magic marker lettering is a new one to me. I doubt it was factory markings but who knows.

Thanks for the info. Everything else seems to point to a z28 too. Big thanks to Jerry@CHP for suggesting I look around the cowl for traces of the original striping. Found them under the repaint done around 1989.

My buddy thinks its a BM. Don't think this is the original housing. Just pulled it this afternoon.I'll get better look at it tomorrow. Is that the code you are looking for?

BM0321G1. The guy I bought my car from said he didn't think rear end was the original one.

If I'm correct I think its out of a 68 Camaro or Chevy II.

My book shows BM= 68 chevy II , 69 chevy II, 69 camaro.

Check the date code on the back side of the housing

I was thinking the writing on the inside could have been the axle date.
No way to tell now....

Ok no one has seen that writing on the inside before??? Why would someone take the time to write the September 1968 date? Could this be the first one of that color produced? Maybe this is something to look for in the early 69 cars? The 1st is maybe the 1st shift or first run? B/SS/37 = Base /Super Sport/ 3 7 = Z28 (style trim and not) this is quite the curiosity, even if the guy decided to eat his lunch in that car and thought "hmm let me make write that his is the first green one Im doin" Maybe there is the the 1st blue and first red etc out there. Is this a Los or Nor car?

All the writing I have ever seen on these cars was done in crayon, not magic marker. IMHO it is not from the factory.

Lots of maybes there. It looks nothing like the known markings from the assembly lines, where cars were rolling down the line and markings were a quick scrawl with a crayon or a paint marking. IMHO it's too new in appearance, too long and wrong format, and was not a factory marking. I highly doubt someone in an assembly line would go to the trouble to write 1969CHEV when it was already obvious.

If '69 chevy' was written in marker on a floor hump, it was probably written by the fella in the scrapyard when he cut it out of the first car it was in..? :)

It does resemble salvage yard markings, but most yards I remember used white or yellow crayon. And yes I have bought a car from the scrapper, and put it back together with other parts from the same yard.
