Title: Need help with 1967 RS headlights
Post by: Danishbanker on April 21, 2014, 04:27:59 PM
Hi

My right headligt door is not workring - and I need to find out where the problem is - hope somebody can explane what to do and how to do ?!?! ;-)

I could open and close the door by hand - so I have removed the cover and plate.

I have the 1967-69 Restauration guide and on page 58 there is a drawing where I can see the inboard and outboard limit switch and the motor etc.

How do I check where the malfuncion is ??

Thanks for any help
/Claus

Do you have an OHM meter ?  Or 12V test light ?

Power to the motor ?  Operate one way and not the other ?

For starters un plug the motor and have some one operate the system while checking for power in the harness you had plugged into it ( feeder from limit switches---relay board )

I'm at work today ,can email you copies of the 67 instruction/troubleshooting guide tomorrow. Only problem I ever had was one of the motors went bad when the car was about 22 years old.

Yes I have both.

They didnt work any way - IŽll try to locate the motor and limit switches tomorrow - but the guide would be great, thanks ;-)

Thanks guys ;-)

IŽll forward the link to work tomorrow and print it out - and then try to read AND understand it with my dictinary ;-)

Before I saw this I took out the hole doorpiece ( it didnt work any way at all ) - I dont think I can messyre anything in the wire harness going til the motor. I can test the 2 limit switches, and they work fine.

If I put the 2 wires to the batteri - should the door move if the motor is okey ??

Hmm not sure I understand - sorry :-((

If the motor does not operate if I connect the wires to he batteri in any way - the motor is broken, right ??

Yes the purple and black pigtail.  If you can not get it to power up by either way then the motor is bad.

I am fairly certain the block piece under the shrink wrap is a thermo cut-out and it may be bad. It is wired in series with the motor feed line.
This was to save motors from burning out (in theory) when they were prevented from moving due to iced doors in the winter.
This is from memory and having fixed a few 28 years ago so I may be wrong but I don't think so.
I am sure I have a few used spares in storage.
