Title: 68 BB AC brackets
Post by: 68ashgoldRS/SS on April 01, 2014, 03:39:49 PM
Hello all,  while showing my car, I had a gentlemen come up and tell me that my top AC brackets were incorrect.  He stated that he had a 68 BB AC car that was "untouched", and that my "U" shaped bracket and compressor support bracket attached to the intake manifold was not correct for a 68 BB car (circled).  This surprised me a bit... went home and pulled out the AIM.  Unless I read the AIM incorrectly, it shows this setup as being correct for an L35 car.    He stated that the Camaro catalogs (he referenced Heartbeat City) shows this "U" shaped bracket is used for SB cars.  It's my belief that since the vendors he researched did not show the BB bracket he assumed I was using a SB set up.  I can't imagine that the SB and BB intake bolt spacing would be the same?   Can anyone validate that my bracket appears correct?  Thanks, Ed

Just pulled up HB Cities info... they do in fact have the top bracket for a BB car...  looks like it's a replacement, but correct... I'll chalk this up to experience and take someones comment of having an "untouched" car with a grain of salt next time ... :)

Good idea. Alot of times it isn't on purpose and sometimes they're just idiots and blowhards. There have been a few things on my car that I thought were original and would have sworn to it, but have been proven not original.

You even have to take the vendor's claims with a grain of salt.  Note they say that bracket above is for a 67-68 Camaro with a BB.  I haven't seen too many 67 BB Camaros with factory a/c.  Probably explains why it wasn't in the 67 AIM.

Amen. I've run into a lot of them over the years - they keep on showing up at every turn. I like to listen as I'm walking through a show, or vending at the swap meet - you can overhear some astounding untruths. Some are downright hilarious -

Simply ask them exactly how they reached that conclusion, the stories are great. If you want to be nice, a good reply is "I have never heard that before"

10-4.... the dude was so sincere... I  bought into it enough that it had me second guessing myself :)   Guess that's part of the fun, and satisfaction that I got it right!
Hawk, same here... I had door side moldings on mine that I thought were original... Although the AIM shows them, through the forum I discovered that No Camaros were born with them, and that it was most likely a dealer add on (thanks Ed B !)...

Mine was my D80 spoiler. I thought for sure it was OE, but the trim tag no showy the D80... That's the only big thing on mine that won't match the TT.
