Title: 69 tilt column research looking for original info
Post by: zman1969 on March 20, 2014, 03:17:00 AM
My 69 has a tilt in it and it needs some work, its not working well and needs repainted and I was trying to confirm if is a real camaro tilt or not, I know these were similar for several years but would like to know what they look like- correct for 1969 I have searched here and Camaros.net and very little info and the best thread I found was here http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=10632.0  (http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=10632.0)
But this looks like a nicely built one but is it right? any pics or info of orig 69 columns would be appreciated
thanks CRG people

I found this to be most helpful. Hope it helps. Thanks to Ian Johnson for his research:    http://www.worldwidecamaroclub.com/pdf/tech/tiltsteering1.pdf

WOW, that is a great bit of info Bentley, thanks for posting that. My Z has a tilt in it, which I thought was a bit unusual. I'll have to check it out when the weather gets better.

Wow again Bentley!! :)   Why didn't you post that link a couple of years ago before I spent MANY hours trying to figure out all those differences!!    I finally determined an extra column I had was for a Chevelle, but I NEVER learned about the date codes.. :)

As I stated earlier,a little stupidity will go a long way. I am now afraid to go look at the supposedly "original" tilt wheel I bought and installed in the early 80s. I will blame this on Al Gore for not " inventing "the Internet earlier. Yes that's it,that's why I screwed up an original 1969 Lemans Blue X-55 SS 350 by turning it into a White Z 28/RS. There was no Internet ! Now you guys make me feel like a real idiot. Thanks to this site and all you guys for putting me on the right path to a correct restoration of my Camaro! Good luck to all on your projects!

Ya'll stop dissing my neighbor (he grew up in the county next to mine). The only thing he's guilty of (lately) is causing global warming. Hot this winter, wasn't it ?

Hmmmmmm...how does anyone know where any of us live? So far I'm the only one that has NOT made it private.

Several of us share a small amount of info in our profiles in a public way... :)
