Title: Survivor 69 Z back on ebay
Post by: sixt9x33rs on February 26, 2014, 01:17:02 PM
I have seen this car and it is a nice survivor with a few bumps and bruises, but this guy is unrealistic on price IMO.

That's probably the *most real* survivor that I've seen for sale, and it's a one owner with 32K miles...   *everything* seems kosher to me on that car, so for someone wanting a real Z28 to preserve, it would be hard to beat....

Yes, the ad did state original paint, and I didn't look closely enough at the hood underside the first time.  On second and closer look, it *does* appear to be overspray, as if the hood had been resprayed at some point??   Maybe someone more familiar with the factory paint practices can say whether that might be possible from the factory?   THe photo is attached here for convenience.

That doesn't look like overspray to me. Hard to tell in the pic, but it looks like it goes right under the hinges and the rust seems to be feathered over that paint. Hood insulation might have stopped somone from cleaning the rusty areas and the orange you see could have just been maintained better. Just a theroy...

It is a nice survivor but why start the auction at $60,000 ?

How about reflection from the top of the fenders, and there is no insulation on a flat hood.

That engine compartment looks un-fluffed based on the pics in the auction. Its missing a few items and replacement maintenance parts such as hoses and master. Looks like a very good unrestored car. The condition is typical for a car left alone and unpampered. I think Gary likes it because its ORANGE....

......, and there is no insulation on a flat hood.

Mike

*There is no insulation on a flat hood UNLESS it came with deluxe interior  ;)

That certainly is an unbeatable color combo eh?  :)      Shouldn't the underside of the hood be painted black??

I think your right about that Gary (not the orange   :D  ) but the black on the underside of the hood. Maybe it was black but the moisture got to it? Mine is still black, but mine had hood insulation on it most of its life.

Gary should live in Tennessee, or at least root for the Vols if he continues to obsess with Hugger Orange.

I would have bought another Pace Car if the color scheme was reversed -

Sorry - couldn't resist.

You could look for an orange/white stripe Z28, Steve...  :)    (We've got a few vol fans down here in north Alabama... :)

I believe the underside was black, but its usually a rather thin coat, and it looks like it was stored in a moist environment which caused surface rust not only on the under hood surface but in the engine compartment in general. I will say the car looks to be sitting very high in both the front and rear which is not typical.

I looked at the car and considered buying it but the guy just wants to much money. The paint is original, the interior is mint, and the smog is in the guy's shop. This owner bought it from the original owner. He has not titled it from the original owner but technically he is the second owner in my World.

If he doesn't consider himself as an 'owner', then he must classify himself as a *dealer*, in which case.... should we believe anything he says???  :)

Good point.
