Title: Trouble shooting cig lighter
Post by: sixt9x33rs on February 18, 2014, 01:29:55 AM
The cig lighter on my Silver Z does not work. I have 12 volts on the flange inside the cylinder of the lighter. My lighter works, tested it in the Gold car. I am guessing when you push the lighter in for it to heat the flange in the cylinder slides in the lighter and the circuit has ground somewhere for the lighter to heat? I cleaned up the lighter with a Dremel, cleaned up the the cylinder with a Dremel. Still nothing. Any ideas?

Thanks

Lawrence

The lighter housing grounds through the ashtray; the lighter center terminal has power all the time, and when you push in the lighter, current flows from that center terminal through the lighter heating element to the lighter housing to ground.

Thanks John. Would it be possible that the housing is just not making good ground to the ash tray. A simple twist or turn may help?

Thanks

Could be - the inner housing grounds to the ashtray at its lip at the front, and the outer housing grounds to the ashtray at its serrated flange on the back side of the ashtray panel. Make sure the outer housing is "cutting paint" on the back of the panel.

I figured it out. It was just rusty and not making a good connection.

Thanks

Man, Lawrence, that's good to know because when I read topic, I thought you were having trouble shooting your cig lighter, which I was going to suggest taking better aim, a pistol rest, and suggest the correct ammo. Also was worried about shooting inside a vehicle and the dangers with ricochet. Wheww! that is a relief...and about a week early for April Fool's day, but a primer nonetheless. hope you guys get a laugh.
