Title: 68 Camaro 12 bolt brake backing plate gasket
Post by: SS396 on January 28, 2014, 03:14:43 PM
When I disassembled my rear end I didn't notice any gasket between the brake backing plate and housing. I've noticed some resto vendors sell replacements. Are they supposed to be there or not ?

I know this is an old post, but I just came across it. I'm going to have to disagree. I'm just finishing up restoring my rear end. It's my born with, untouched posi. There was a gasket between the backing plate and axle housing flange when I disassembled it.

I hate it when I have to correct myself... For whatever reason, I was thinking of the front disk brake backing plate. I have gaskets behind those, not the rear backing plates.

There would be a gasket or O-Ring if the axle tubes are modified for C-Clip eliminators.
