Title: 68 Camaro rear park brake cables
Post by: SS396 on January 13, 2014, 08:40:38 AM
Does anybody know if 68's had flat wound cable housing or spiral wound cable housing on the rear cables ?. Mine has both fitted, not sure which one is correct.

You need the cables that have what looks like a thin cable wound housing or as you asked "spiral".  The flat metal type wound cable is not correct and but is noticed in later years (service replacement).

My original cables are wound with a spiral spring. As I understand it, all were made this way. There is an inner tube core with the spring on the outside. The cable from the parking brake pedal and both rear cables are spring-wound. Presumably this keeps the inner tube from kinking where they have to bend and curve, especially the front one. Hope this helps.

I've posted a few pics to show the difference between the two. I'm assuming from the replies that RH side is correct for 68 ?
