These survivor cars are very intriguing.
If the bids are real, this one is bringing some major money.

Not neccesarily, there are plenty of large format cowl tags in November of 68. This car is a very early 11A built car but I have numerous 11A large format tags in my collection of images. Both the large and small format tags were used during November. This one should not have an X code on it if its original.

I like the car, and I like the idea that these original cars are still out there waiting to be found. "Best color" , not mine but we all have our favorites. It's on my watch list, I am some what surprised it is bid higher than the silver unrestored Z that one of our fellow CRG members purchased. I am not sure I would attribute that to color, but who knows what a couple of bidders are interested in one month to the next.
I thought I saw this car on ebay last year, but I see a lot of orange with the black vinyl top so I may be mistaken. The odd colors are easier for me to remember...

Is the '69 Camaro called the 'Hugger' or not? Are there any other colors than 'Hugger Orange'.. with 'hugger' in the color name? :)

"odd" may be a poor choice of words. how about not ordered as often, or seldom seen or lower percentage colors. For instance I don't see to many silver with red interior cars, or white with red interior. They are not super rare, they are out there, my point was a champaign 69 or yellow with yellow hounds tooth interior I don't see as often and it would stand out in my memory. I see a lot of the orange with black vinyl top, obviously it was a popular choice back then.
Camaro the "hugger" sure you can associate it with hugger orange. Oddly enough the brochure which shows the "hugger" license plate is a green car.
I personally like Garnet Red, and looked for a long time to find the right condition Z that was a original Garnet Red car. After finding a bunch of cars repainted red, I found a nice one that still has much of the original paint intact.
If somebody has their eye out for a original Z that is Orange here is there chance.

Red interior original camaros are pretty rare, esp with white/silver exterior. Personally, my favor car color combo is white w/red interior... I think the late 60's was a 'black interior on performance cars' period.. or maybe it's still that way? I know when I first saw my orange/black car and peeked in and saw the orange/black houndstooth.. my first thought was.. YUK.. :) but it grew on me.. :) and I purchased it.. (traded a Marina blue / black interior Z28 for it..).

I like unrestored cars, but the price of this is WAY out there. I really wonder what he wants for it. I guess it won't be long. There was a Blue one 2 or 3 years ago for 50K. I wish I got it. Well $63,333 with 4 hours left. I guess he wants 65K! I would agree with ya about the silver car. That was nice... Danny

I wonder how many of these so called for sales are BS buttons for someone looking for a thrill to see any interests.

Guys, as most of you know I am the one that bought the unrestored Silver Z a few months ago. I looked at this Orange Z personally when I started looking for an unrestored car. The car is a real Z with the real Trim Tag (IMO) the seller has fabulous paperwork, pop, sales invoice, a video of the original owner documenting when he bought the car, pictures of the original owners drivers license, the original title and the list goes on. I can't remember everything he had. The interior is absolutely mint as a car with 32K miles should look like. The trunk is mint, the spare tire has never been on the ground, the GM factory installed or dealer installed air shocks are there. The engine and engine compartment are untouched. A lot to learn from this car. The smog goes with the car and the seller has it in his shop. The two rear tires are original to the car. The paint on the car has a few issues, as shown in the pictures. Also there are a few pretty good size dents on the driver side door and I think rear left quarter. The car is a no tach, no console car just a clock as the seller mentions. Anyway it is a very nice car, but the guy wants $75K for the car which I thought was way over priced. I was going to make him an offer but I knew he would not take it since he had just bought the car and had not yet tested the waters for buyers. In hind sight I am very glad that I found and purchased the Silver car. It is a pretty cool old car.

I really think you bought that silver car right, and I am glad it was as described. So you got the silver car for about 25k less and it didn't have the dents, nice. ;D
So the orange car has a nice amount of documentation, maybe 55k or 60k judging by the bids would be a more realistic. ???
What your thoughts on comparing the two Lawerence? (since you saw both first hand)

Yea the current owner of the Orange car has not intentions of owning it long term. He just wants to flip it.
The paint on the Orange car shines better than my Silver car, but there are areas of the paint that are far worse than my Silver car. He shows them in the pictures. Especially behind the back tires and the area on the left quarter. The body has more dents than my Silver car, and has larger dents. The trunks are about the same with the Orange car being a little better. The Silver car has a little bit of the spatter paint lifting on the trunk pan right behind the spare tire. Both cars have all matching correct YH wheels. The Silver car has NOS chambered exhaust but were not installed correctly. They were welded together at a muffler shop. So that needs to be fixed. The Orange car has incorrect Thrush type mufflers and the wrong tailpipes as the Silver car. The interior of the Orange car is hands down better. The Orange car just has 32K miles on it and the Silver car has 104K miles on it. The interior of the Silver car is good just not mint like the Orange car. The engine compartment of the Orange car is untouched where the Silver car engine compartment has been maintained, cleaned over the years so it has limited rust, it is clean and looks better than the Orange car. The engine in the Silver car has been recently rebuilt so the paint is fresh. The Orange car engine paint is original. The Orange car engine compartment is untouched and Survivor quality for sure. The shocks on the Orange car are wrong. They are for a truck or something odd like that as I recall. Apparently, when the original owner was drag racing it he wanted the weight to shift to the rear tires a quick as possible so he had the front end up in the air. I did not personally see the numbers on the block, tranny or rear end, but I was assuming they were correct. If I were to make an offer I certainly would had put my eyes on all of that. The Orange car is a very nice car, but not for more than the highest bid. IMO.

Like I said when I started this thread, these survivor cars are very intriguing. Definitely sounds like you got the better deal even though the orange car sounds very rare and cool. Just over priced some.

I am glad to give that commentary but it is just my opinion. I would be happy to go up to Denver and look over the car for anyone that is seriously interested in the car.

My personal opinion is this car would be a great investment. There are less survivor cars every day. A huge difference to me between the silver car with repainted rebuilt engine versus the unpainted un messed with engine in this one. I'm not knocking the silver car. Usually you see someone selling a survivor and you will see some repo parts like hoses, clamps, smog etc that have been installed to bring it back to stock appearing. This car is still missing the smog, wrong master cyl etc. That just points out to me that nobody has made a attempt to dress it up. It stands tall as is. Good color and paperwork. Appears to have no stories. The only thing I have not heard is what the floors under the car look like. Undercoated ?

Charley the Silver car is original paint. I recall the Orange car having undercoating. The Silver car does not have undercoating. The Orange car under the hood was very nice and original with the factory plug wire spacers still intact as well as other original fasteners. When I got the Silver car there were several incorrect fasteners used to put the components back on the engine. However, the car came with several boxes of parts and the original fasteners were all in the box. So I just simply replaced the the wrong ones with the originals. I agree with you that the Orange car would be a good investment at the right place. I guess you could pay $75K if you planned on holding it a very long time? And I guess did not drive it very much. My problem is I like to drive my cars...

I hate undercoating.

My car has undercoating, but I have the receipt showing it was done on the 2nd day of ownership, along with undercoating it. If not for the undercoating my car probably would have rotted away in the first couple of Michigan winters. SO, yes on a car now it would nice not to have them, but undercoating while used to cover up possible rot, back in the day saved a few cars, and was useful.

My Silver Convertible has a ton of undercoating underneath and I too believe that it saved the floor and trunk from the Nebraska Winters. Not sure people drove convertibles in Nebraska during the 60's and 70's but regardless it had to help the bottom of the car out. I agree that it is ugly but give to get right?
The floors and trunk on both the Orange car and Silver car are very good.
