Hi Guys!  Would anyone know or have handy by chance, the part number for a 1968 Camaro rear spoiler.  I have the 69 number
which is: GM# 3949798. (long spoiler)  The 68s had the short spoiler.  thanks!    Don

Don, the part number is 3916633 Group 12.181. GM parts book calls it an extension assembly.

If you are, GM still sells them.

Yes, GMPartsDirect has cheap prices on their parts, but they make it up on the "shipping and handling"!!

Or, you can go the EBAY ROUTE (http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-CHEVY-CAMARO-Z-28-SS-RS-67-68-GENUINE-GM-TRUNK-LID-REAR-SPOILER-EXTENSION-/300920326651?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item46103fc9fb&vxp=mtr#ht_1093wt_1363) and pay $375 and no shipping.

Are you talking about a hunk of 1/4"-20 threaded rod, or the original double ended studs with a lag thread on one end, and 1/4-20 on the other with the integral step between them.  The ones I've seen have threaded rod only.

I don't really know what was installed in the '68 spoilers, but I'm familiar with what is in my '69 .. which is a double ended stud, with a wide flat flange in the middle (which serves as a stop when the stud is screwed into the fiberglass spoiler, and serves to prevent the fiberglass from being busted out by too much torque.).  The following photos are from my factory original rear spoiler studs and retainers (late 09C car).
1) first photo shows both  a rear (short), and front (long) stud as used on the rear spoiler (there are 4 of each, and the long ones *may* come be installed in two differing lengths, with the longer ones used on the center two locations).
2) Second photo shows the two different retainers (nuts with encapsulated washers).  The nut with the wider washer also included a 'rubber washer' which served as a seal to prevent water from entering the trunk around the stud - the rear most studs were located behind the trunk area).
3) Third photo is of one of the longer studs after removal from a spoiler.  It isn't very visible in this photo, but this stud has a wide thin flange 'stop' between the two threaded sections).

Yes, hardware is just the nuts.  You need to install the "Gum/Caulk" yourself the kit I purchased didn't include it, but I had a whole box of it for putting car back together.  BTW, still have some leftover.  And, Yes, the studs are installed at the factory.  I was lucky enough to purchase a NOS #3916633 years ago when I knew I wanted one on the car.  You guys will probably "freak" when I share what I paid for mine back in '92,  $89,  I had a friend behind the parts counter at my local Chevy dealer.
