My question is: Is there a reliable person to send an original '69 am/fm radio to for repair?
The tuning knob shaft has a little bend in it and the tuning needle sticks.
I did a search and everything on radios is somewhat old.

Found this thread on Nasty Z. Haven't had any radio work done myself but here's a place to start. http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2868749

I've had two radios restored by this guy:
Joe Vijil
1833 C Street
La Verne, CA 91750
Phone 626 264-7233
perfectradio@roadrunner.com
First radio was for my Chevelle - basic AM.
The other is an AM FM Mono for my Camaro.
I've been extremely satisfied by the quality of his restorations and attention to detail.
I'll post some before - after pics after I upload them to Photobucket.

I have no idea where there is a date code on the radio. Curious where it is.
Per the Chevelle Radio Tech site, http://www.chevelles.com/radiotech/69_72tags.html it decodes as a '69 AM FM and is correct for a Camaro, if I interpet their decoding correctly. I have not been able to find a site or place that tells where the date code is. Clearly the ID tag on the restored version is a reproduction tag.
From the Chevelle Site:
"Example: the correct model number for a 1969 Chevelle AM/FM pushbutton radio is: 91BFP1.
Using the decoding information from above, you might be confused by the "B" in the model number since "B" indicates "B-body" or in other words, a full-sized Chevy. So why is it correct for a Chevelle or mid-size "A-body" ?
The answer is some of the same audio equipment was shared among different Chevrolet vehicle lines. A full-size (or B-body) Chevy such as a 1969 Impala shared the same AM/FM mono radio with such vehicles as the Camaro and the Chevelle. To keep things simple and costs down, B-body radios such as the AM/FMs were often installed in other vehicles. "B" can also be thought of as the "default" radio to be installed when a vehicle line did not have its very own line of radios. In fact, many Chevrolet vehicles "borrowed" B-body audio equipment at different times in production."

Thanks George! Can't wait for the day the car is done and I can listen to some tunes getting drowned out by the 302 revving up!

Sounds like a likely session with Springsteen's Born to Run playing just before the holeshot is sprung. ;)

No offense to Springsteen, but more than likely it would be THIS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIVe-rZBcm4) or THIS ONE. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xm5DPlNCmtk)
Son, you're in a heap of trouble playing that loud music! 8)

X2 on either one of those songs. I would also like to add, Black Sabbath from the Black Sabbath album, the one with the witch in front of the old building on the cover.
My favorite poster...the one with all the panes showing the guy with his head in his hands and each pane shows his head melting down to nothing. I'm thinking there was something printed on the poster but for the life of me I can't remember.
Anybody here ever have American flag pants? I found a picture of me wearing mine. I'll have to dig it out and post it. I think it was even 1969 too.

It was very reasonable - in the $200 range. I can't remember the exact amount. Feel free to contact him and he'll provide a quote range over the phone.

For radio repair I have used Downtown Radio in Charlotte NC. Do great work but they don't restore radios like Hans guy does.
