Title: 1111263 Delco Remy distributor
Post by: 3Zs on September 04, 2006, 02:20:42 PM
Anybody know the original application for this distributor?  It is a tach drive, cast iron, mag pulse with an assembly date of September 26, 1968 and does not appear to be listed in the 1965-1969 "Chevrolet by the Numbers".

The 1111263 is the highly prized “Ball Bearing” distributor. This was a heavy duty version initially released for the reverse-drive camshaft 427 big block racing engine. It has a special ball bearing on the upper part of the mainshaft instead of the usual bronze bushing. It also has an iron housing with a mechanical tach drive and a special reverse-drive distributor gear that permitted normal clockwise rotation of the distributor in this special 427 engine. It was specified not to have a vacuum advance. (The plate inside the distributor was fixed in position.) This distributor listed for $1,699.05 in the 1991 Chevrolet parts books! I know of several Corvette guys that would love to have a chat with you!!

Ed, thanks for the information.  This distributor was available then only as a "service part" as opposed to being delivered on any particular big block car, (similar to the crossram intake for the small block) right?

Correct. It was listed in the Heavy Duty Parts List and available "Over the Counter".

HERE'S (http://www.camaros.org/trans_ign.shtml) where I got the info from...

I have a transistorized distributor the number on the band is 1111263 Delco Remy and it has a 1F3. I also have the box that goes with it and I have a wiring harness for it. I am not sure if I have the coil. I have had these pieces quite a few years. If you are interested in any of this please make me an offer.  please email me at tlclark28@alltel.net or call 706-270-0004.
