Is this car in the database? Anybody know of this guy and his dual Camaro Z/28's? Why is there no tach. Could you even get a Z/28 without a tach. I know that no console is fine. That seems like the only real red flag. Anybody else see anything? The Trans Stamp looks kinda not correct and too clean?? Maybe not..... What about the trim tag? Danny

Yes over the course of the model year things changed such as exhaust and Tachometers. Tachometers did became a required option but originally no. The link is busted above so what is the build date?
-
A tach or special instrumentation was technically a mandatory Z/28 option as of early 1969. For some reason cars were built as late as May without either so there must have been a parts shortage or many existing orders in the system at the time.
-
So you are saying there is DOCUMENTED cars in the DB without Tach's??... Danny

There was a thread on Team Camaro from the fella who found and purchased those cars (from one older owner), but I was unable to find the thread when I looked again? Maybe it got removed. He purchased the cars purely to resell.... but what I was able to see, looked real...
-
my 4c x77 came from factory with no tach, no console, dash has speedo, clock and fuel gauge, with deluxe interior, got it form 2nd owner
-
Well it looks like she is a goner. Auction has ended, and all bids cancelled. So with 7 days left, somebody scooped it up. OK... WHO WAS IT... ?? Did ya get them both??... Danny

Gary, the link is in my post just above yours.

Tach and gauges were options originally. Had to be ordered. Tach became part of Z package later in the year. See Jerry M's book. "All Z's had tach and gauges" is one of those myths that refuses to die. Wish I had a nickel for every time I've heard that stated as gospel. That and the "crossram in the trunk dealer installed" one.

For what it's worth, I have an 1969 Z/28 without a factory tach. It also has no console. Also have the chassis broadcast sheet, actually only about 60% of it has survived life under the back seat. The car is an 05A car built in LA. I've talked to the original selling dealer who confirmed for me that they typically ordered Z's for inventory as cheaply as possible thus my car came without most options.

Yeah Grody Chevrolet here did the same, also with Impala Nova's and Chevelle's. Ton's of low option SS badges all over the lot those days.

Per the 1969 Visual ID Table (NOTE 7) (http://www.camaros.org/diffs69.shtml#FNi):
7.Tachometer was optional except for post-May Z28's. If present, it requires a console or center fuel gauge.

I just noticed something very strange about the burnished brown car that was with this lemans blue car from this past auction. Please access the team camaro thread posted by ZLP955, a couple of threads above. I may be very wrong but check out the trim tag on the burnished brown car. NOR 148792 on a 10D build date with an X77D80 X code. If it is a Oct. 4th week of 1968, why is it a X77D80. If it is a Oct 4th week of 69, why is the body numbers below the 05C car with a body number of 324823. If I have stuck my head up my backside, well I did it again, but I think I saw something very wrong with that trim tag.

They restarted body numbers in August of 1969.
