Title: Front coil springs
Post by: sixt9x33rs on August 25, 2013, 03:19:58 AM
I have a set of relatively new front springs and I don't know what they were built for? A small block or big block? Is there any way to tell?

Thanks

Lawrence

Are they GM or aftermarket? If GM, is the tag still on them?

Ed, I am guessing aftermarket. There are no tags.

I replaced the springs that were in my small block when I bought it. Pretty sure those were big block springs. That's 40 years ago. They had a free height of 16.5 inches. The small block springs I just replaced them with are 14.98 inches. I know spring dia. matters but hope this helps.

look at the very ends of the spring coils, if they are MOOG springs there will be a 4 digit number stamped on the coil, usually very small and hard to see but they are there, maybe 2" from the end of the coil.

Like this these numbers are on the original Z28 springs... btw Lawrence I have a set of front springs with the last number of 25 they are listed for BB conv with about 200# extra weight.
