I've noticed a couple of Holley carbs with holes drilled in the choke tower.. such as the carb body in the ad below. Why do people do this? What's the purpose?

that was for a rear squirter kit. it used tubes from the front squirter. a way to get a 'double pumper'.

additional squirters was the only possible reason that occurred to me, but I couldn't remember having seen that before (or it had been so long I'd forgotten) *G* Thanks...

Very interesting. I looked at a 70 z that had holes but farther apart. Guy was 3rd owner and someone told him it was a california car and it had water injection at one time to pass smog test. Thought it was odd

Water injection was one of the 'fixes' suggested back in the late 70's for keeping high compression engines running on lower octane fuels. I briefly considered that and some other 'fixes', before I decided to just park/store my Z28 in 1980... I even considered conversion to propane, but where do you put a propane tank in a Camaro? :)

If you had a carb with holes drilled in it like that is there any way to repair it and bring it back to normal ?

I ran a Holley 780 (3310) with this set-up back in '72-73. I believe I used a Mr. Gasket kit. It also required the use of two meshing gears that bolted to the throttle shafts on the passenger side. Basically when the throttle was pressed all four barrels opened at the same time along with four shots of gas. It ran pretty good after the engine was warmed up. When cold, not so much. Jim

Devcon and replate it?
I'm unsure what Devcon is?? but I'd think you could use one of the low temp mild metal 'welder kits' and weld it up.. grind/sand it down flat, and then recolor it...?? but it would be a lot of work for an 'also ran' carb...

I think Devcon is very similar to JB Weld.

WOW ! Some expensive stuff, and you probably only need 1/2 oz..

Why not just buy a double pumper carb to start with?
I was doing that before holley came out with the four shooter. I have a letter here asking about the fuel volume problem I was having with the pump and they told me I was wasting my time. I ran this setup on AFBs for years before holley became the carb of choice for GM. AFB carbs were not a problem because they had a larger volume pump. they also had a perfect place for the second squirter in the secondary thermal vent. we won a lot of drag races till they caught on as on the holley I drilled the squirter discharge holes in the air cleaner stud boss that squirted into the secondary capped off with a air filter stud. :D

I would take a scrap carb and cut and machine disks from the choke tower for a press in fit to the holes. if you ream the holes for a precision press fit and machine the disks on a lathe this would work.
