Title: 68 Ignition Switch - No Ground?
Post by: jeff68 on July 28, 2013, 05:32:12 PM
I'm putting the dash back together on my 68 convertible.  It has the original ignition switch & harness that plugs into it.  The spot on the plug that corresponds to "GRD" on the switch is empty.  There is no sign that there was ever a connector in that spot.  So, only 6 out of the 7 connectors are used.
Is this normal?

Cars with idiot lights used all 7 connectors because the temperature lamp on the dash went through the ignition switch (dark green wire). Cars with U17 gauges used only 6 because the temperature sender wire went directly to the temp gauge. It may have been the one that says ground, but I don't remember.

Thanks Ed!  I have console gauges, so all is good.  I'll make a note and put it with my wiring diagram.

Jeff, go out and buy the "1967-69 CAMARO RS CONSOLE GAUGE & HEADLIGHT WIRING DIAGRAM MANUAL (http://www.rickscamaros.com/camaro-rally-sport-rs-console-gauge-and-headlight-wiring-manual-1967-1969.html)" available at all the repop houses. It already has the differences between the standard wiring harnesses and the gauge harnesses.
