Are there any differences in alternator fans??? Did GM use the same fans for #834, #837 alternators?? Thx
-
The 834 and 837 alternators used the same fan, P/N 1966990.

Once again, thanks Ed !!

Ed, I see many 837 alternators with the "hook blade" , but my 837 had never been apart until I rebuilt it. It has the same fan as my 834(like you said). I always wondered if it was correct as it was not the hook type, but assumed it was because it was all original on my car when I bought it. Another post reply by JohnZ concerning 837 pulley finish started by DT shows the hook fan. Could you clarify why this is? My engine is a 396,not a Z.

Can you post a picture of the fan you're referring to? Also, have you read THIS (http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=8145.0;all) and THIS (http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=120380&highlight=hook&page=2)?

Here is a picture of my alt fan. Does it look like an 834 or 837 ?? Thx
-
It *appears* the same as the fan in my original 837 alternator in the photo...

OK, Thx

older thread but I was wondering how many 837's had other than the "hook blade" as pictured above? pictures?

I wouldn't think any did - the alternator part number defined several characteristics, and if any of them changed, the alternator assembly part number changed:
Current output and curve
Physical "clocking" of front and rear case castings
Type of fan
Type of pulley
None of those attributes changed during the 1969 model year run, and neither did the alternator part number.

How about the 814 from '68 ? I've been chasing one for years - prices keep getting somewhere just above stratospheric and below sub orbital - I've nearly thrown in the towel.
-
FWIW I just bought a used alternator off C/L was off the guys 71 Nova - it had the hook blade fan on it. apparently it was a common part
-
After 40+ years of use and rebuilding, swapping, etc... any combination is possible in a used part. I wouldn't put much stock in what I found in an ebay part or C/L part.
Re the 814.. didn't I just see one on ebay yesterday?

I too had/have been looking quite a while. I found one that needed rebuilding fairly reasonably priced, but it was the wrong date for my car. So if anyone finds a date that's good for my car, I'd be willing to swap mine if that date works.

Whats your date you have and the one you need?

The one I have is 8F27. I need an April or very early May one.
