First post for me. Have a AACA Top Senior (Jerry MacNeish) certified 1969 Camaro Z28.
Here is my question: Does the throttle rod have anything more then that "C" type washer/nut
(not sure what you call them) on the shaft that attaches to the carb? It seems to have a
lot a play in it. Should there be a washer in there to take some of the play out?
Thanks in advace. Larry

Follow Up: I guess the part ("C") above is technically called a "retainer"; thanks. How did it come from the factory? Anybody help. Larry

Larry, the throttle rod has a C-shaped snap ring-type retainer at the carb lever, and a sleeve & bushing with split pin at the firewall throttle arm. If you have access to the factory assembly instruction manual (AIM), the linkage is shown on UPC Z28, sheet A4. If you don't have one, you can download a PDF version via this link (http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=9433.0).

ZLP955:
Thanks for the response. Yes I see it now; but still think there
is excessive movement but will have to live with it. Larry

The 'C' clip I think is actually called an E' clip isn't it? The rod on mine seemed a bit floppy on mine and although it's been a while since I looked I believe I filled in the slop with a tiny flat washer or two. I'll have to check.

69Z28: Thanks for the response. When throttle is pulled back
everything tightens up fine. May put some flat washers in.-Larrry

At the carburetor end, the Z/28 throttle rod fits in the SMALL hole directly below the LARGE hole in the throttle lever; the LARGE hole that takes a black rubber bushing and white nylon sleeve on the base V-8 isn't used on Z/28, L-34, L-35, and L-78. There should be no "play" at all in that attachment, which only takes an "E"-clip.

JohnZ: Thanks for the reply. My excessive play is in the lengthwise (In and out) rather than the diameter of the hole. It seems that the slot of
the rod(that holds the "E" clip should have been put closer to the throttle arm of the carb.IMHO Larry

Yes. The small hole like JohnZ said. The in and out like 'IIskis' describes is a bit long so I added the tiny washers to take up that slack. I've never been close enough to another original Z to compare if this normal or not.

Sounds the same as my Z; I added a flat washer as well.
