Hey guys, I need some help. I have a 68, I turn the key and nothing, I do have strong battery, and alt. was just rebuilt. Could starter be trashed??? Ocassionaly I can take a screwdriver and bump the starter, then go inside and turn key and it starts, but no such luck anymore. Is the starter my culprit???
Thanks

Do you hear any "clicking" at the starter when you turn the key?

No nothing at all.

Could be the solenoid then. Remove starter and take it to Advance Auto or Auto Zone and have them test it. They will be able to ID solenoid/starter problem for you.

My '68 did the same thing, and after replacing everything and even running a temporary contact switch under the dash for a Band-Aid, I found the problem; the contacts in the plug where the purple wire runs through the firewall had corroded, and the switch wouldn't energize the solenoid. This one about drove me nuts! I cleaned the contacts and the car starts fine. Hope yours isn't this complicated, SS. Good luck.

Well, I got it fixed. It was in the wiring. Guess the wire may contact with header at some point and melted a connector. All is well now. Thanks for your help. It's nice to have help a type away.
