Title: 67 Camaro cowl tag and VIN Decoding Help
Post by: mattman67 on May 14, 2013, 07:28:09 PM
Hello, I am trying to find out some details about my 67 Camaro's cowl tag and VIN. I think I figured out the basics, but if you can help me verify the details from my codes, I'd greatly appreciate it. Specifically, was my car built in the first week of production in 1966? Any more details would be appreciated!

Hi Matt. Again, welcome to the site. As I stated in your other thread, you have a 1967 6 cylinder coupe (as indicated in the VIN - 123377L126776) assembled in Van Nuys, CA. The build date of 12A indicates your cars assembly process was started the first week of December, 1966. The beginning of 1967 production was August, 1966, so your car is actually 4 months into the model year.

The information to decode your trim tag can be found HERE (http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#67Codes), but a real quick and dirty is it came with red exterior, red standard bucket seats and a tinted windshield.

Ed not sure if it was just a mistype but the cowl tag has a 12437..  Maybe Matt needs to post a pic of the vin tag.

Darrell, the trim tag has no bearing on which engine was installed in the car. It was used by Fisher Body to indicate what interior was to be installed. For 1967, 12337 on the VIN indicates an L6 engine and 12437 on the trim tag indicates standard interior. (12637 would be a Coupe with deluxe interior)

Matt,
Your car also came with a 3-speed stick on the column.  Not many of those around anymore.

Thanks guys for all your responses. I'm trying to determine if I want to keep the motor and trans. I finally got to check the numbers on the motor and here they are. What do you think?

Matt,

The above motor is not original to your car.  It is from a '68 Nova.
