I'm continuing to find 'loose parts' in my garage from my Z28 which I removed long ago (car not driven in over 30 yrs). The two parts shown in the pix, I *believe* are from the Z28 302 engine. The carb accelerator linkage was stored next to the manifold and carb, so I'm *almost certain* this is the original linkage rod.
The vacuum line, with steel parts and two rubber hoses, I just found in a box under my bench, and I also believe this is for the Z28. If anyone can confirm these parts are for my Z28, I'd appreciate the information.
PS. I have a *few* cars disassembled in my garage (55, '57 Nomads, El Camino, Camaro, etc) and I *never* throw anything out!.. but after more than 30 yrs, I sometimes can't rely on my memory.. :)

Looks like Z/28 bits to me. :)
-
Thanks John!
I was looking for your photos earlier, but couldn't find them searching.. :)
When I removed some of those parts, I wasn't expecting it to be 30 yrs before I used them, or I would have boxed/labeled them.... :)

Hey Gary, 30 years ago we didn't know any better. I bet a lot of thing's went straight into the G file. Finding the stuff like you have after 30 years is great. I can actually see what is missing from my car.
Thanks John!

Gary, the one thing that jumped out at me immediately was the length & dia. of the small vac. hose end that attaches to the carb. The survivors I have looked at along with our 68Z and John's 69Z looked like this. Just so you could look through your stuff.... :)

Thanks Chick, I'll check it and see...
but it's also likely that the hose cracked and swapped for 'whatever was convenient' at the time.. :)
-
Gary, what diameter is the vacuuim line and can you measeure the entire length please?
-
The longer rubber hose is approx 6.5" in length; I believe it to be original, as it has a 'white line' on it, and is 'old rubber'. The shorter rubber hose doesn't seem to be original; I think I recall the original was rotten and cracked at the end and I cut a 'too small diameter' hose and tried to squeeze on it.. it's actually smaller than the original rubber hose.
PS: When I rebuilt my 302 in the '76 timeframe, I ran a Mallory rev pol (all mechanical, no vacuum) and a Judson Electronic Magneto (coil and CD ign), so that's when this line was removed and 'boxed', and hasn't been used since. I'm continuing to look for the original coil and bracket in my shop.. :)
-
Gary I meant the hard line not the rubber - sorry for lack of clarity
-
Not a problem Zman.. :)
Attached is a photo of all the parts of the vacuum line, alongside a ruler.. :)
-
is it 3/16" tube?
-
Zman,
I'm not sure on how such tubes are measured (ID or OD?).. it's a small tube.
From the photograph I sent, it appears the OD is ~ 3/16" (definitely less than 1/4)..
-
Does any one know where to purchase the steel vacuum tube for the advance. I have bought 2 but they are both bent wrong and once installed in the clip are about 1/2 -3/4" lower than the port on the carb.
Need to find the correct one.
-
Can't you just bend it where you want it to be?
-
No, because when you place it in the clip and maintain it level the rise is to short. And if you try end remove bends and re-bend it will look re-bent, steel is not good bendable material. I will keep looking.
Thanks

All of the fuel and brake lines are steel, and bend quite nicely if you use a tubing cutter and bender; go to your local auto parts store, get some 3/16" brake tubing, and bend it to suit your application.

Sounds like a solution, Thanks John

Heartbeat City has a repro http://www.heartbeatcitycamaro.com/store/product/13782/Camaro-Vacuum-advance-tube-kit-302-1967-1968-1969/ (http://www.heartbeatcitycamaro.com/store/product/13782/Camaro-Vacuum-advance-tube-kit-302-1967-1968-1969/)

EVERYONE has the repop. Just get it from whoever is closest to you.

I have purchased the one from Heartbeat and it does not fit with the Z28 intake. I will make one. Measure the two and post it for info.

well that saves me 25$ the only thing i cant make would be the crimps on one end i already have the intake clip so bending the tubing is no big deal thanks ahead DDZ28!

I have compared the repro to our original and it was the same and fits great. What bracket are you using to hold the steel vac. line?

Do you have a picture?

Here are 2 photos of the steel tubes I purchased and 1 that I made to fit.
