Title: 1969 hood insulation
Post by: bcrossan on March 31, 2013, 10:55:19 PM
New to the site so be gentle!! Also new to Camaros having just purchased a 1969 SS 396/375 about 3 months ago.

I found this site when doing some research on hood insulation so figured it would be a good place to post my question. I had a leak in my fuel line over the weekend and now my hood insulation is soaked with gas. Between the smell and concern of it catching fire I figured it would be best to change it out. My question is are all insulation pads created equal or should I be looking for something specific? I found this on ebay and before I purchased wanted to make sure I was getting something close to the original part. Thanks for the help!

Can't imagine how they can ship it for $9.55 unless they roll it up in a tube, which would destroy it.  :-(

No, they are not all the same, they vary from stuff that looks like carpet underlayment pad material to this:

That one is about 200 bucks shipped.  the clips they sell with any of them are junk, they look nothing like the originals, so save the ones that are on your hood now.  Also there are different ones for the standard hood, and the cowl induction hood, so make sure you get the right one.

A good way to get the correct clips ,is to visit a junk yard ,and find a 69 chevy passenger car.

Thanks everyone.  Do you guys think I need to go through the extreme of changing it out or will it be fine once the gas dries up and evaporates off?
