Mecum has an auction with 3000 cars next week. Might actually start this weekend. I went to a show at old town once. Is the NCRS show soon?

Yes, The Florida Chapter of NCRS sponsors their Winter Regional next weekend, Jan 24-27th at Old Town;  includes a judged NCRS regional show, and lots of parts in the swap meet;  It's the best of the NCRS shows re their swap meet (mostly Corvette parts).. and the prime reason I attend when I can.

I checked the Mecum site online.  It doesn't appear the Auction is a 'part' of the NCRS event, but typically an Auction occurs during the same time since there so many people there from everywhere!  The Mecum auction begins 18 and runs thru the 27th.. separate event, but in the same locale..  :)

Mecum has an auction with 3000 cars next week.

With 3000 cars over ten days, it'll be interesting to see if they run out of bidders before they run out of cars.

I think running out of bidders might be a problem. The auction is on the east side of town at a place that resembles a fairgrounds. Nice facilities but the better hotels are on the west side closer to Disney. Old town is a good place for a show. Almost across from Disney.

Maybe the Mecum bunch just needed a 10 day vacation in Florida this winter?? :)

Anyone else feel like Mecum is more Muscle/Pony car and Barrett Jackson is more Corvette and Fins?

I thought that they were only this weekend and I was out of town in Jacksonville on business. Now that I know that they are going to be going next weekend too I may be there.

There are so many cars, if you didn't know what you wanted, it would be overwhelming on where to start! The cars are in tents by day so its not bad to find them. Food lines can be bad! There is a brick building that housed the high dollar stuff last year. Its a fun event even to just look. I went to what i think was the second one and its really grown.

Interesting interview with Dana early this afternoon when Velocity started their coverage.  He said the number of cars consigned was due to demand, and that had grown over the years.  The announcer also said they all about muscle cars in a wide price range.  Think they read this thread? ;D ??? ;D

I watched a bit this evening...    some nice Corvettes brought some big $$ without a lot of the hype that you see from the BJ people..

Yes lots of Corvettes at this auction especially today. I am watching on the webcast. I also noticed three COPO Camaros "The Blue Mule", "Hoosier Hell" and the gold one, with 2 JL8 Camaros today too.

With 3000 cars over ten days, it'll be interesting to see if they run out of bidders before they run out of cars.

As the Velocity coverage has gone on, the crowds seem to have thinned during the week, at least until today.  I'd love to hear from someone who is actually there about the crowd.  What I'd love to know is the ratio between "sold" and "the bid goes on"....  Does anyone know what the seller pays Mecum when the car doesn't sell?

yes.... that's why i like mecum

I see it as more the difference between the BJ "haves" and the Mecum "have not so much"  ::)  :o  :(

Watching Velocity on Saturday, the last day, there are still bidders, and they seem to HAVE quite a bit of $$$..  :)
Prices are astoundingly high.. and I suspect the cars there are more *real* than lots of them seen at BJ..

I drove up for Friday and Saturday at Mecum - huge crowds both days.  NCRS meet across town was very well attended too.

Friday and Saturday had good crowds. I was disappointed in the amount of Camaros that aren't what they appear. Seen fake tags, stamps and documents.  I don't look at the chevelles as close but is the same thing happening there?
I was interested the the stage 1 convertible tonight but the paint was terrible on that car. There were alot of super nice resto mods tho

Anybody see the Red FULL Custom '55 Chevy  "ZL 55" go across the board today?  It was stated that the ZL 1 Engine came out of a '69 Camaro.   Hmmmmmm!

Yes, they 'said' that..   but I didn't get the feeling that it was an accurate statement; I think they said it because the 'ZL1' term is most often associated with 69 Camaros.
it was probably one of the 'new' ZL1 engines.    The 55 BelAir was beautiful though..  it bid to a VERY HIGH price, but was a no sale...

Is it just me???  The guys at Mecum don't seem to be as knowledgeable about what is factory correct and what's not.   A lot of what they do seem to know I believe comes from talking to the consigner.

They're reading from the consignor's vehicle description sheet as given to Mecum.

Just sayin', on Barrett Jackson they actually get out their little flashlight and look for the codes.
