Title: Interior Paint Codes - 1967 Yellow "707" interior
Post by: elcamino72 on January 06, 2013, 02:44:48 AM
I'm getting to the point in my restoration where I need to start thinking about the paint for the interior.  I know the dash is gold and the tops of the doors and the tops of the rear inner quarters are interior yellow.

What are the paint codes that you guys are using to replicate these finishes?  My jobber carries PPG.

Thanks

Don't know, the 69's hav e a nice little chart that lists the colors used on each part by the color code of the interior, but I've never found the equivalent for a 67 or 68.  But if this picture is original I would THINK its the dark gold one.

There is only one Gold color for '67 interior paint listed on Ditzler PPG chart. It's the Granada Gold.  Code  GG and PPG number 22818

Where did that list come from?  GM used Dupont paint.  Granada Gold crosses to Dupont 4825L (Lucite) of 4825D (Dulux), 910 Sherwin Williams, which are exterior colors, not interior.

TCP Global    Plug in the make and year on this page. The charts will come up.     http://www.tcpglobal.com/autocolorlibrary/  Those are EXTERIOR colors. I looked at it wrong.

OK I have the correct codes. Dupont number  9378-L  or Ditzler 22822  Dark Gold. I called  my paint and body man and he has all his books from way back.

Thats a flat dark gold metallic color.  Probably correct for the top of the dash, would think a 9405L semigloss dark gold, or a 9406LH semi gloss metallic dark gold would be more correct for the dash panels and other metallic interior parts in a 67.  Don't really know you need to find someone with a gold interior to tell you if its semigloss or flat.

Yes this is the flat for the top of the dash. Do the front panels get the gold too?  I thought they were yellow. I can give him another call and find out but I better wait til tomorrow.

I'm just trying to help so bear with me and please don't get mad or take me wrong. Cabin fever has got to me and I'm hunting something to stay busy. I'm now on a walker and haven't been out of the house in 2 weeks.

Everything inside the car is gold, except the tops of the doors, A pillar trim, parcel tray, the window cranks, the coat hooks, the headliner, the door panel vinyl, seat cover vinyl and the convertible top cover (if its a convertible) those peices are yellow.  Door lock knobs are chrome.

I sincerely appreciate everyone’s assistance.  So far it looks like the top of the doors and the top of the interior rear quarter area should be 9383LH –( Yellow).

The top of the dash should be 9378L (Flat Metallic Dark Gold)

The face of the dash and steering column should be either 9405L (Semi-Gloss Dark Gold), or a 9406LH (Semi -Gloss Metallic Dark Gold).  None of the photographs I have of Yellow or Gold Interior 1967s are clear enough to determine whether the paint was metallic or not.

I’m leaning towards not, but can’t be sure.  Any further insight would be much appreciated.

Thanks again!
Bryan

Does anyone know the interior dye codes?  My jobber says that that they can probably get me the correct interior dye however they state that it would be easier for them do to that if they had a code for the yellow and gold dyes.  I know that the restoration parts houses carry these dyes, but I would rather deal with the local guy if I could.

Thanks again for all of your help thus far!

Okay, I bought the paint today, but won't get a chance to spray for a few weeks.  I'm having the windshield removed tomorrow morning which will give me access to the top of the dash for paint and allow me the opportunity to clean, prep and paint the windshield channel for a complete repair.

My PPG jobber crossed the numbers for me as follows:

Yellow - PPG # 81585 (Dupont # 9383LH)
Flat Metallic Dark Gold - PPG # 22822 (Dupont # 9378L)
Semi-Gloss Dark Gold -  PPG # 22843 (Dupont # 9405L)
Semi-Gloss Dark Gold Metallic - PPG # 22849 (Dupont # 9406LH)

The PPG paint is available in laquer with the correct glosses.  I had them mix it up in the Deltron line for better durability.  I choose the yellow (PPG # 81585) of course as well as the Dark Gold (non-metallic) (PPG # 22843).

Now if someone could just give me the interior dye codes I would be all set!

Thanks again everyone.

Bryan

Bryan dye colors are hard to come by. Mar-Hide used to publish dye charts like paint but my body man nor I have saw one in years. They might be out there but not as popular as they once were. With that said after wasted money and time trying to match interior colors I used the OER name brand interior plastic paint/dye and it was spot on. Hard to believe with all the junk OER sells for parts and they got their interior paint correct.  I mixed and matched original interior parts using repop only where I had no choice and it came out great. You can get it in quart or spray bomb and I used both with great results.

Color keyed interior pieces rarely if ever matched one another when they were new. If you do decide to make them match it is just something to be aware of.

Hope that helps Bryan...or anyone going down the yellow interior road. On a related  note , in my searching found how rare this interior color is and totally a love it or replace it situation. Maybe hundreds built in 1967 ,however few remain . One is Rick Georges  (from Rick`s 1st Gen). I made contact with him recently , "still has and loving it" . He told me when he restored his he went the dye route . Seemed excited to hear about any  N.O.S. yellow materials . Still some other yellow interior parts I still need are that rubbery flexable trim that goes next to the  back glass at the top and down the sides . It crumbled when I touched it upon disassembly . Anyone know the description/part number for these three pieces . Again any help appreciated.
Congrats again also Bryan . That's a rare one indeed ! IMHO

Good morning guys.  I have hit a slight snag.  I can't seem to find a vendor who has the proper 1967 Yellow interior dye.  Can anyone point me in the right direction.  No one seems to have a listing for it in any of their online catalogs.  I know that Rick George told me it was available back in 2004 when I spoke to him at the GM Nationals right after he purchased the Berger 1967 RS/SS Yellow/Yellow convertible.  Thanks
