The Axle on my Camaro is coded as
JB G272 1 The best I can make out is it is a 8.5 out of a 72 GM product.
I have a Ring and Pinion posi unit.
The Pinion gear is coded 383240 F10
The Ring Gear is GM3790629 12 37 6 65
it has 37 teeth to 12 teeth making it what I believe to be a 3:08
The question is ( of course ) will the Posi ring and pinion unit work in that axle housing.
Any help would be great!
Thanks
Mike

I was told the Ring and Pinion , Posi was out of a 67 Nova. If that helps?

The way I'm reading this the housing is a '72. Correct? If so it won't work.

I found the code for the axle housing on a nova site. I read it as a 72 Detroit 2:73 open.
Its there a way to confirm the part numbers on the ring and pinion? I really wanted to save some money using this unit.

I couldn't find anything in my interchange book which has missing pages and torn to pieces. Not to give up I called my buddy and he said these gears were '63 to ? I can't remember. He said they would work in any rear up to a '70 model. He's an Auto transmission and rear end builder/set up for the drag racers around here so I would trust his knowledge. Other than that I can't help you. Sorry :(

Thank you for trying.
I guess the bottom line is that gears are out of a 8.2 rear end will not work in a 8.5 rear end.
The unit came out of a 67 Nova , it has a 8.2 from what I was told.
Thanks again.
