Title: 50 Z/28's For Sale ???
Post by: HOT3O2 on December 26, 2012, 10:47:03 PM
I had e-mailed American Dream Machines about this car ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=121042771446&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:MOTORS:1123 ) They have for sale. I wanted to see a pic of the trim tag. Here was his response.

Thank you for your interest in our cars at American Dream Machines.  I think that one may be sold.  It is a x33 car and we are happy to send pictures if it is not sold this week.  We have 50 other Z-28s.
Please give us a call at the shop and our restoration staff and I will be happy to answer your questions regarding the car.
More pictures and detailed information can be viewed on our website at www.admcars.com

Thank You,

Doug Klein

Yep.......these dealers are the worst. I'd say they are the ones responsible for 90% of the fake Z's.

Could have at least put the temperature sending unit on the correct side :P :P :P :P :P

Shame they don't include a trim tag pic or engine/trans stamping details. Good way to get around the "numbers matching" statements. Must be quite a collection to have 50 Z's in one spot.

Steve

It says it has an August dated 010 block in it. Numbers matching? The 010 block didn't come out till April 69.

Couldn't that have been a August 69 built engine?

Not according to the VIN he put in the ad. It's an early built car with a 50 start in VIN.

Good catch Daniel! Never even looked at the vin or car that much to begin with (should have). For me, if the seller does not disclose important info/pics of the trim tag, etc. the ol' red flag goes us since so much of the time its being done for a reason.

Doug, maybe you should call and ask if any of the 50 have the original engine?????

Well I did get a picture of the trim tag. It's obviously a repop.

I wonder if it would bust his bubble if I told him about it? Do y'all think I need to?

I'd be willing to bet that he already knows.

This dealer has been around for a while, I think they sell on consignment. I remember they had a Dusk Blue '69 Z for sale on their website site. I contacted them and spoke to someone who seemed somewhat knowledgeable but the car had been sold. He told me they have access to all kinds of private collections and could get what I need. I guess after reading the above posts they can also apparently build me anything I need....

Some one please refresh my memory - when the trim tag and/or VIN numbers were reset towards the end of the '69 model year to extend the Camaro production until the 2nd Gen came out, what were they reset to ? I'm too lazy in my old age to go look it up. Might be in Jerry's Definitive book ?

Gotta love that nice, crisp and perfect trim tag - even with the straight 7's.

Steve

Body numbers were reset to 100001 in August of 69, VINs were never reset.

He sent an email wanting to know what I based my opinion of the trim tag on. I told him it was the mismatched numbers that gave it away. Maybe I baited him enough he'll try to convince me differently. Stay tuned film at 11.

Someone with that many cars would get alot of good out of this site. I am surprised they are not on here. I do know a guy who would also get alot of good out of this site but he stumbles along trying to figure it out himself. sometimes people cant help themselves!
Like right now I am thinking I would like to make this font bigger so I can read it!  geez

I got a response but it was the usual hog wash. He did say he was glad I pointed out the mismatched number but it was just a clerical error. I don't know how a clerk will straighten that up.  This is the funny part here though.

"We have sold over 300 Camaros.  Many of the Z-28s with 350 engines, we have sold in the 40s and 50s' and a a few in that price currently for sale on our site.
We're planning on reducing the price to $59,900 and based on the restoration quality of the car it is still a great deal. We're not going to get rich but that's ok."

Nice looking Camaro, just the same.
Trans crossmember is backwards.
Parking brake needs adjustment, cable sags too low.
Shouldn't the pulleys be deep groove?
Still, nice looking.
