In 1968, were all 12 bolt rear axles equipped with two U bolts 3930054, or only those with the 396 engine?
-
My 68 L30 12-bolt had one u-bolt and two t-bolts for each side.
On a related note, make sure you get the correct 3930054 u-bolts. AMK has the correct u-bolts as part number B-11621. The 'correct' u-bolts that the parts places sell (the ones with the flattened area) are not a match to the original 3930054 u-bolts. If you're interested, Chick (68camaroz28) posted some u-bolt comparison pictures over on Team Camaro: http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=182584&page=30

Thanks for the Team Camaro reference Jeff68. My 68 12 bolt (350SS) also has one u bolt and 2 t bolts on each side, but the u bolts are aftermarket. Just ordered two u's from Heartbeat the are supposed to be identical to factory ones. What prompted the question was the Assembly Manual that showed u bolts for the 396 option, although I assumed it also included all 350 SS's w/12 bolt as well. Just want to check with the experts.

You may want to double-check what you are buying. The HBC description gives the correct dimensions, but the picture shows an incorrect u-bolt with the flattened area and smaller diameter shank.
AMK has the correct ones.

Look at the list of non-illustraited parts for the L48, L34 and L78 in the AIM and you'll see it says "Assembles the same as RPO L35", which is two U-bolts and four T-bolts.
Although it doesn't say in the AIM, the L30 with 4 speed also used two U-bolts and four T-bolts.
