Title: shackle bushings
Post by: BillOhio on November 04, 2012, 01:39:18 PM
I am having a tough time getting the rear top shackle bolt and bushing out.  Someone put in regular bolts and trying to change them. No room to do much up there. Anyone got any tricks?

Hi Bill,

Is the rubber frozen in the chassis hole preventing the bolt from being extracted?
If so then the chassis hole probably rusted and has expanded and locked the rubber in place. I had that happen and I used a torch on the bolt to soften the rubbers grip and extract the bolt then I was able to use a round ceramic tile cutting blade and cut through the rubbers to eventually free that up through a series of thin blade screw driver wedges.

Hi Mike
Thanks for the reply. I can't turn the bolt or anything. The car is clear apart and worst thing i ran across. I will try a little heat

Cut the head off the bolt and used the shackle to pry bolt out. Was easier than the bottom bolt. None of it was original parts .
