Title: I'm impressed - new member
Post by: rsinor on October 26, 2012, 09:03:59 PM
I've been reading posts for the past several weeks I'm truly impressed with the level of knowledge and willingness to share that knowledge that I have witnessed here.

I’m an ineffective newbie here, have been active in the Corvette hobby for more years than I care to mention. I’ve owned other Chevy Bowtie products along the way a 67 Z28 (fender said 302), a 67 396/375 Camaro, a 66 327350 Nova, several Chevelles and a few other GM products, a GSX Stage 1, a 442 convertible that had those funny red plastic inner fenders, won’t mention the Fords or Mopars today.  I’m thinking/hoping that I might have something worth sharing with this forum too.

I live in Northeastern, Oklahoma; have for the better part of my life, worked at Ford Motor in the Engine Division for a short period of time, after graduating from college.

Most that are not using my name in vein simply call me Roy

For those of you who may not know Roy, he's one of the really "good guys" in the car hobby; he's also the NCRS National Judging Chairman, which keeps him busy taking care of 15,000 paying members and hundreds of nervous owners having their Corvettes judged every year at 40+ Chapter, 6 Regional, and the National Convention Judging Meets.  ;D

Welcome to our website, Roy. As an NCRS member myself, I definitely know your name and respect your knowledge and commitment to the hobby. I'd love to see some pics of your old '67 Z and 396/375 car, if that's possible.

Unfortunately most of the cars I’ve owned were at the time transportation, never took many pictures, I’m extremely fortunate I grew up in the muscle car era and live in the performance car era. I do have some pictures I’ll try to dig some out, another member offered to help me post them.

In Roy’s own words; “I have attached some pictures of a few of the cars; 66 350HP Nova which is still in my possession, 67 375HP Camaro and my 2009 ZR1 Corvette (taken during museum delivery) both no longer in my possession.”

Roy - PS & BTW; I just used your name in vein but in this case it’s a good thing! Amazing cars!

Camaro was an unrestored original paint car with if I remember correct around 36,000 mile, I owned it for I think 10 years, original drivetrain never wrecked, sold new in California had protect o plate and original black plates.

It was sold new at F. H. Dailey Chevrolet, Oakland, CA. It actually was a L35 325 hp.
Style trim and rallys were added (it had a body colored spare). Nice car.

Thanks for sending along those photos, Roy. All the cars are nice but man, that red Camaro is a real beauty.

Yes it was a 325 with Automatic, I was told several times while I had it that the trim level was incorrect for the car.

Now I'm really impressed, is the current owner a member, are your records from before I owned it.  I was always confused by the spare, never thought the rally wheels were added, I Just figured the bright trim had been added by a previous owner would it have come with small hub caps?  The really unique thing about this Camaro at least I think it is, the VIN on the engine pad is upside down. You recognized this car from my photo’s that’s almost unbelievable. Did you see it when I had it for sale? That was a while back as I sold it several years ago.

Roy, the trim level might be incorrect but it's still a very good looking car. Certainly no shame in owning that car in my opinion.

Roy,
I found the car in the database via the black plate. But I could also have found it from when you had the ad in Hemmings in March of 04.

Car was at Pomona back in 89, so it's been around.

In 67, Camaros only had rally wheels if the car also had disc brakes.

It was in California not too long before I purchased it, I do not ever remember sharing the dealer name off the protect-o-plate with anyone so seeing that was a surprise. Guess I should be happy that the black plates with the car in 89 were the same it had when I owned it.

I’ll never catch up with you guys on details, now I know rally wheels are disc brake only guess I should have known that based on the center cap but did not process it. The thing that drove me crazy about the car initially was the white stripe, and the red spare was always confusing. I might have a picture of the trim tag somewhere. Would you like it if I do.

The POP picture and trim tag pictures came from when it was on ebay a couple of years ago.
Looking at the tag pic shows a very sharp paint line above the tag. That would indicate that it was repainted by 2010.

Thanks!

A repaint would really surprise me the paint was pretty nice on the car, are you talking about the parting line where the black out is done?  If the car was componded and buffed in that area would it sharpen the line?  Maybe you see something I can't.  I certtainly do not see anything in the photo that looks like a tape line, I sold that car I'm going to guess in 05 or 06, do not have a clue where it is, or what has happened to it since I sold it, the guy who got it from me sold it within a year.

Thank You,

Roy
