Title: cam ID help
Post by: SH69Z28 on June 08, 2012, 08:01:22 PM
I'm disassembling a 350 I've had in a bag for about 12 years. The motor has previously been rebuilt but had less than 1000 miles before I got it. The cam is a flat tappet hydraulic. Can anyone identify this cam? Cast into it are "I7  04" "1578 D8" and stamped into the end is "1944 0". There is yellow paint on part of the core diameter. Thanks.

If you have a digital or dial caliper, measure the lobe lift.  Then, multiply the lobe lift by 1.5 to get an approximation of the advertised lift.  That's not the last word in determining what you have but it will provide an idea of what's there.  Most of the major cam companies stamp the pertinent information on the end but that appears to not be the case on this particular cam.
