Title: 69 Kick Panels
Post by: HOT3O2 on December 11, 2009, 07:46:02 PM
I have a question regarding the kick panels on the 69 Camaros. I though that I had read somewhere that the early 69's had a two piece kick panel and the later ones had a one piece. Can anyone verify this or was I mistaken. If this is true does anyone have a picture of the two piece that they could post. I would also like to thank everyone on this site for all the great posts and anwers. It's a wealth of infomation and I have learned so much. Keep it up.   Rick

My 1969 SS350 with a 01C build date has the two piece kick panels (the grill is a separate piece). My understanding is that they did go to a one piece later in the year. My kick panels are out and being replaced (previous owner cut out a hole for speakers). I will see if I can dig them out and take a picture for you.

Rick,

Richard has posted pix and some good data. If you locate a source for 2 piece panels let me know and I'll do the same. So far, all the repops I've found are one piece.

I don't think the 2-pc are repop'd.

The change is mentioned on http://www.camaros.org/TopicsofResearch.shtml#1969Topics

The early kick panels also screw onto the door jamb in a different position too. The repro panels are the later position.
I don't know whether this coincides with the 1 and 2 piece design, but the repops are incorrect for early 69s.

If they were smart, they'd produce these with 2 tabs, and the customer simply cuts off or trims the one he doesn't need.
Instead, I have to try and plastic weld these where I need them. ::)

My 69 is an 11C build.

Steve, yes, the 2-peice vs 1 piece is what caused the tab relocation.  The 2-peice have a square tab higher on the arm than the 1 piece.  Since the repro was modeled after the 1 peice, that is the issue.
