Title: Coil Spring and Driveshaft Paint
Post by: jmcbeth on November 30, 2009, 06:14:36 PM
At Camaro Nationals this year, I lost points in Legends class for painted coil springs and driveshaft. ('69 z/28).

My options are:

1. Do nothing. Unfortunately, the points are non-trivial. Also, it's bugging me that it's not correct.
2. Remove the paint. Several people have indicated that rust will appear within days.
3. Remove paint, re-paint with clear coat. My experience is that rust will appear, albeit slower than with no clear coat.
4. Remove paint, re-paint with natural looking paint.

I will be removing the coil springs anyway to shorten them a bit.

Several questions:

What have others done?

Is there a paint that the judges will accept? If so, what this the brand and model of paint?

Any other advice?

Thanks.

Coat the driveshaft with Boe Shield after you have removed the paint. Re coat it about every 90 days and you should be ok unless you get caught in a downpour.

The springs are a different story. You may have to clear those.
