Title: 69 NOS Z28 emblem
Post by: muscle joe on August 17, 2009, 02:44:27 PM
Bought a NOS 69 Z28 Front Grill emblem and I am curious about the black paint outlining the emblem, there is none, the emblem I took off had black outlining paint, the new NOS one did not, any thoughts if this is authentic or a repo sold as NOS   Joe

"NOS" isn't necessarily the same as the production-line part; GM service replacements frequently differed in small details from the production parts, depending on supplier capabilities and tooling, as they were made after the car was out of production. Those parts are more properly called "NORS" (New Old Replacement Stock). Photo below is my untouched original grille emblem, and it has the black outlining you mentioned.

Ok, Thanks, seller said he bought in 80's, nice part, tooling looks same as old one I removed, just no black paint   Joe

Hard to tell from the computer screen but what color is your "28"   I've seen them white and I seen them silver.  What should they be?

The supposed NOS part I bought had a silver 28 and black outline all the way around.

The "28" should be silver.
