Title: Blue wire? Where does it go/what does it do...
Post by: Bjv69ss on March 29, 2009, 05:41:46 PM
Since the day I took my car apart for restoration I've wondered what this wire is for.  When I took up the carpet  I found a blue wire that runs from front to back. It's also inside a plastic tube to protect it.  If memory serves me it ran in the drivers side sill channel into the trunk.  The car had a rear defogger or could it be a rear speaker wire?  One side of the speaker was body ground? right?

My '68 Z/28 has a blue wire like this for the U80 rear speaker option.  My blue wire runs down the right (passenger's) side sill channel into the trunk.  Below is a photo from a survivor '67 Camaro U80 speaker installation...

Great!!  Thanks I could not remember which side I took it from.  The car did have a rear speaker from the looks of it.  I'm putting the car  back the way it was so I'll put it back into service.
Thanks again Joe

The rear defogger feed wire was red, and ran down the driver's side.

Thanks John, That was going to be a question soon.  I also found a piece of red wire on the drivers side sill that was obviously cut as close as possible at both ends.  The hole in the dash made it easy to figure the defogger option out.  I had no idea what the red one was for though since the defogger was long since robbed from the car.  I take it the fogger was grounded out back and powered from the fuse box.  I have not looked at the schematic yet but am heading there after I hit the post button.

That's correct - the defogger harness from the switch plugged into the fuse block for power, and the motor has a ground wire that's secured under one of the attaching studs on the shelf panel.
