I had my transverse muffler on my '68 replaced last week. When I picked it up the muffler guy said " we gotta a problem" Yikes my heart sank!! My muffler bracket somehow got dislodged from the floor plan. I dont prentend to know the name of all parts and pieces of my entire car. I thought I would get that out of the way. However looking at the bracket, there are two bolts with (threaded grommets?) that go through the top of it into the floor pan. There isnt a nut on the top side of floor pan and no way of accessing it. I dont see a way how the grommet is secured other than the bolt expanding the grommet???

Not near an AIM, but is there a call out?

(UPC) NF2 (SHEET) A3 (Page 360).
Piece #3 PN 3922549
No Call out for the Rivnut, just the Chevrolet Hardware that mates with it.

A rivernut seems like great option, thank you. I wonder where I could find one for a single use w/o having to buy this

Hardware: 5/16-18 X 7/8 GR5.1 HX SPLIT SEMS PHOS. 2 pk
AMK PN B-10913
I seem to think the Originals were Zinc plated.
Anyway:
I just Climbed under my 68 Z and I just realized the Driver side is a "Tapped Plate" and the Passenger side is a pair of Rivnuts. I just assumed all four were Clinched Nut serts.
This may have been discussed before and well known?
As in ALL vehicles received the Driver side plate and the V8 cars got the pass side added as needed.
-
I think he is referring to the 2 hangers in front of the transverse muffler. The tail pipes have rivnuts on the pass side side.

Need a Riv-Nut tool and the inserts? Harbor Freight is your friend. Its not the greatest - but works.

I will attach some photos, at least I got the Year 68' correct.
Here we go.
It will be interesting to see how it compares to Cooks red car.

looking forward to seeing pics

Lets see if I get the order correct:
Driver side. (LH)
1) Floor (Threaded plate)
2) Framerail (Threaded inserts)
Passanger side (RH)
3) Floor (Threaded inserts)
4) Framerail (Threaded plate)
This is from a LOS Dec 1967 build 1968 V8 Fbody
To the OP: Many options exist to repair or replace depending on your intended finished results.

If I have time Ill look tonight but no promises. I know one set of holes on my car are blown out just can't remember which side on the tail pipe hanger. The body mounted hangers have never been out.

Very helpful, thanks!

I was going of memory and that was flawed, LOL.
It gets different for Verts and other "Strange years; 67/69"
I don't have photos of the 68' SS396 car, but the above should be a start.
Thanks DW

AMK has installation kits in multiple sizes ranging from $2.50-$5.50. Very hard to find on their website unless you know they're there (and persistent). Contents of the kit are basic parts-bin hardware... but nice to get it all in a baggie for a couple bucks. The catch is, $30 minimum order.
This search string: https://www.amkproducts.com/search-result/?ser=rivnut yields rivnuts in many shapes and sizes. Scroll to bottom and a second table lists the installation kits. There's also helpful photos you can get an idea what's in the baggie, with installation tips.
Somebody above suggested HFT... I didn't find any rivnuts (or tools) at HFT a year ago. Regardless; the procedure discussed at AMK requires no special tools you probably don't already have (i.e. allen wrench & open-end in appropriate sizes)
